Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Brun066Florence, Italy13,731 contributions…and it's indeed unmissable.
We visited it in the late afternoon of a beautiful summer day, using the bus line leading from Biei downtown in that direction.
However, since this bus runs infrequently, we had little time for the visit; after looking out over the pond and walking briefly on the shore, we had to quickly return to the bus stop, to catch the last ride of the evening.
The positive side of our visit is that, since it happened late, it didn't imply any crowd problems at all.
The color of the pond is truly unique. We were able to enjoy a beautiful shade of intense blue, which apparently isn't present all year round.
The tree trunks half submerged by the water, with their ghostly appearance, increase the charm of the place.Written 11 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Entrance is free except for summer. You can ride on the cart or rent your 4 seater cart and ride on your own for a fee.Written 6 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Chek Chuin SSingapore, Singapore183 contributionsTook the bus from Asahikawa station. Journey was about 1.5hrs. This waterfall is beautiful in winter but freezing cold for us on the bridge. We only spent like 20mins there as we need to catch the return bus. Definitely don’t want to miss the bus and wait 3 hrs for the next one with nothing else to do here.Written 4 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ongwl82016Singapore, Singapore801 contributionsWe spent a while just to locate it as we were looking at a wrong spot on Google map. We parked the car by the carpark beside the road, and took a short to where tourists were gathering and taking photo shot of the tall tree ahead of them. Although Patchwork no Michi was just a tree standing there in a vast area of greenery, it was very picturesque. It is one of the spots in Biei that you should drive to, take a few tenths of minutes to see and appreciate.Written 23 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - HongSiong LSingapore, Singapore75 contributionsThe weather was wet and cold. It was raining heavy.
It would be a nice place to cycle around the farm roads.
The roads were hilly but not steep. The farm lands were beautifully located with tall trees against the sky.
I love the view from a hill stop.
It will be worth visiting it on a dry day.
Cycling around the farm land will be good.Written 29 June 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Except that some of the patchfields were already bald end August, ... but we did managed to catch lots of beautiful scenery along the way , Farm Tomita, Horkyuru Sunflower fields, etc.! We will highly recommend also staying at Farm Pension for You .. which is just 5 minutes from the Shi-kaisa-no-Okai farm .. so you can get their early in the morning for pictures that are not photo-bombed and their cute Alpaca farm .. (free if you stay at the Pension). The view, customer service and the dinner at the pension is really really good.Written 17 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Matan KatzJerusalem, Israel191 contributionsThe place offers very good views of the surrounding area, but in terms of hiking the options are quite limited. Visitor center is also quite small and doesn't offer too much.Written 24 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Matan KatzJerusalem, Israel191 contributionsThis gallary presents the fantastic works of photographer Maeda Shinzo, who took pictures of the area around Biei during different seasons and weathers - you can really appreciate the different views in different seasons around the place. it's small but a great place to stop at.Written 24 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SmelltheflowerCorner of Earth1,658 contributionsBiei is best in winter. Ken and Mary looks better in winter so you probably won't want to visit outside of season. Of the sights we visited in Biei this is probably average.Written 23 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Onn11Singapore, Singapore659 contributionsShinei no Oka is a small stop and carpark area atop a hill, that overlooks the beautiful and peaceful Biei town countryside, which is considered one of the best countryside views across the whole of Japan.
It is roughly a 40 minute bicycle ride from the Biei train station. Cycling is a good way to see the countryside and it is easy to get to the vantage point at Shinei as there are signs in English to follow along the way and you can also ask for a map of the Biei town from the bicycle rental shop. A bicycle rental of 2 hours is more than enough for a leisurely cycle to Shinei no oka plus a bit of stopover time at the park itself.
Note that it is a gradual uphill cycle to Shinei, and it can get windy towards the top of the hillside.Written 19 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. If you are not interested in that, you'll deem the place to be very overrated. We view the different attractions there as a whole. I like the many angles this tree offers and loved the trip that included many different photographic opportunities.Written 24 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - FranclsyMiri, Malaysia350 contributionsLocated next to the main road , this flower farm is easy to spot. Similar to other flower farm , there are many varieties of flower planted. and there is even a field for family to have a picnic and kids to run around. Not as big as tomita but still a little gem.Written 30 April 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
