Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Houcihu is a trail in the hills near Daxi. It is a very pleasant walk. You will have a guide. Unfortunately, English is almost entirely lacking. You will probably see some historic sights connected to Chiang Kai-shek. Chinese people call this sort of outing "pa shan" or "mountain climbing," although they are more hills than mountains Anyone of average fitness can handle this outing.

Daxi is a township in Taoyuan County, which is best known as a holiday resort for the late President Chiang Kai-shek and his wife, Soong Mai-ling. Daxi is quite a way from Taoyuan City. Daxi is also well known as the resting place of President Chiang and his son, Chiang Ching-kuo. Two bridges cross the river at Daxi, the old one no longer takes motorised traffic and the new one will take cars and motorcycles. Daxi is a scenic area, the view over the river is very pleasing.

Dating back to 1873, It was originally a temple of Chinese Fasting Religion (齋教, believers worship Buddha and follow strict vegetarian fasting diet, but they were not tonsured to be monks or nuns).

Then it was transformed to be a Buddhist temple since 1937. Now it is a branch of Fagushan (Dharma Drum Mountain).

There is an elegant Sanheyuan- a main hall and two side wings, with a stunning courtyard and garden. Current brick constructed buildings were built in 1912, and has been recognized as a City Heritage.

This is a factory manufacturing Kawaii pianoes. They opened it up as a factory tour, explaining in details how a piano is being made. There are several parts of the tour. Included in the admission fee is a D-I-Y of either the harmonica, recorder or miniature display piano. First part of the tour is the D-I-Y. They also taught us how to blow the harmonica. Then they showed and explained the various components of the piano, allowing us to touch and experiment with the different tones and sounds of the components. After that, they led us to a room filled with recycled items like pots and pans, drums etc, and let us experienced the various sounds these items made when we hit or drum them. The kids had a fun time running around and hitting these instruments.
Last part is the factory tour, which they showed the pianoes at different completion stage. Overall a very fun and informative trip for the kids.

We visited the Li Teng-fang historical residence in Daxi, which is in Taoyuan County outside of Taipei. It is located a short drive outside of town, set amidst rice fields.

The house, which is in nice condition considering its age, shows you how the upper-middle class lived in the late 1800's. The house itself was built around 1860 by the son of a wealthy merchant. He later went on to a high-ranking position in government.

The house is laid out so that the household workers lived in the outermost portions; the family itself lived in the center most part. Besides the architecture and construction which I found very interesting, the home still has the original wood-burning stove, kitchen items, some artwork, and other items showing you how a well-off family lived so long ago.

I found the rain-water collection system fascinating, as well as a network of mini-canals around the court yard to keep the court yard areas from flooding during heavy rain.

There are no facilities of any sort here (rest rooms, food stands, etc). Just a nice, quiet place to look into Taiwan's cultural past.
