The museum makes arrangements for you at a specialty Kimono shop just down the street where a team of lovely and welcoming local ladies attend to an authentic Kimono dressing including hair styling.
Small museum but the tour guide is very knowledgeable and it's a fantastic visit for a great price.

I am realla into traditional crafts and textiles which is why I basically searched Kyoto for museums and centers to see where the traditions derived from, their history and how they changed over time.
The shrine and gardens are beautiful, the Traditional Crafts Museum is free and very interesting, and the Modern Art Museum is very good and often has superb special exhibits.

It is is one of Japan's three great railway museums alongside JR East's Railway Museum in Saitama and JR Central's SCMAGLEV and Railway Park in Nagoya.
It's always great to see the trains themselves but this aspect is a welcome addition and something i find some rail museums a little light on!

The is a stunning kimono collection displayed as a museum, as well as a kimono fashion show several times a day.

I felt honored to take a Shibori fabric dyeing class at the Shibori Museum in Kyoto Japan.Ryo was so informative and an excellent teacher, his English is perfect.
The class takes less than an hour, and after your scarf is dyed, while it's drying, you can explore many fine examples of various shibori techniques in the museum upstairs.

Easily spend a day in this area as there are different museums and the theatre as well as a major shrine, and spent over 2 hours between the Van Gogh in Japan exhibition and the galleries collection.
Unlike the National Museum, which featured a blockbuster exhibition this month that drew buses full of viewers, the MOMAK felt quieter.
