Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- liucy752Taipei, Taiwan1,243 contributionsA modern and well designed ceramics-themed museum.
The museum displays the techniques used for pottery, the history of ceramics, and fine ceramics used in computers, telephones, and other high-techs. The contents of the exhibitions cover a wide range of topics, including cultures, arts and sciences.
There are also collections of ceramic artworks from Taiwan and other countries. The architecture of the Museum itself is a masterpiece.
A very nice museum, suitable for all ages.Written 13 January 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - schmidtmgSwitzerland1,106 contributionsthis is an interesting little museum, with interesting architecture, a little out of the way in Bali on the other side of the Tamsui river. It's quite a long walk (give 40-45 minutes) if you take the ferry from Tamsui to Bali. The museum gives an interesting introduction to Taiwan's and Taipei's archaeological history, but it seems to be designed primarily for kids and adolescents. I visited on a very rainy day and was all on my own until ten busloads of school children and their teachers descended on the museum ......Written 17 January 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PeterAndJulianTaiwan5 contributionsThe Taiwan Coal Mine Museum is one of the place of interests in Shifen. You can get a taste of Shifen's history. A bit run-down and unmaintained, but it seems like a 'time travel' back-in-time. You find some interesting exhibitions, explanations illustrated by pictures about miners' life. It recalls and show respect for the miners who spent their hard life here. The most-loved part of the visit was the miner-train travel at the end of the visit. We really enjoyed it! The staff was so friendly and helpful. Maybe his english is not the best but he is fine to answer your any question. Also, there's an adorable doggie with him. It's worth to visit and pay the 200 TWD for the entrance fee. Maybe it helps to conservate this historic place for the next generation. Many people complaining about the high entrance fee. I was going to rather pay that fee than for the hand-painted 'tourist-attraction' lantern at the old street of Shifen.Written 5 June 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RospccSingapore, Singapore66 contributionsThe museum itself is OK but the DIY workshop was great. We get to make our own socks at NT250. If you don't join the DIY workshop then you have pay NT100 to visit the museum. They have a shop that sells socks that they made including some branded ones like YSL, Elle, Fila, etc.Written 17 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - dyhxSingapore3,494 contributionsThe waterfall is just a short walk ahead. There's also a cable car station here just opposite the Wulai Forestry Museum but I didn't bother going there. Instead I headed into the museum (opens 0900 to 1700), which is free to enter, to cool off in the aircon in this heat. The museum provides a better understanding of the beginnings of Wulai and it's early days as a forestry hub, hence the log carts which were used in transporting timber. The museum is small but stretches across 3 levels and at the Basement 2 level, it connects to the outdoor platform where you get a view of the majestic Wulai Waterfalls.Written 17 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MuseumStoreShopper112 contributionsBeautiful building and gardens, originally the painter’s home and studio, now a small museum lovingly maintained by the artist’s son.
It’s one of the oddest museum displays I’ve seen in a museum, with the paintings sorted by size: largest works on the first floor, getting gradually smaller as one ascends. All the paintings are behind velvet cordons and then framed behind glass, keeping a distinct air of inaccessibility about them.
Yang San Lang was a prolific painter who travelled the world, and the scenes depicted come from all over: from the slopes of Everest to Paris and Venice to rural North America. His brand of adapted Impressionism may or may not be to your taste. The museum is quite specific, and a recommendation only to certain kinds of painting devotees.Written 23 December 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There's also a beautiful pathway in the park.
There are often fun events there. I attended the Canada Day festival, which was fun but I enjoyed the quiet pathways towards the edge of the park more than the crowded food and drink booths.

- Jian Y12 contributionsThere's little known about this place, but the curators have diligently tried to keep its story alive. The museum celebrates how a precinct in Taiwan used to make Barbie dolls. And while they no longer do, they keep this museum of historical dolls they made (from the 70s and 80s), and merge it with traditional community engagement. Any Barbie collector MUST see this museum.Written 5 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
