Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Will6 contributionsYou can board bus 862 from tamsui mrt and drop off right outside the entrance to the beach. Beach was rather pathetic as there were lots of debris but the green rocks made up for it. Take a short walk to the lighthouse and waited for sunset to enjoy a marvelous view of the area.Place is not crowded and you can have a great photo session.be sure to catch the last bus at 5pm or you will need to walk about 15mins back to the main road for public transport back to shimen or tamsui.Written 25 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TravelJunkySoCalCalifornia289 contributionsParking was super easy. We paid $100 to park our car all day. It is a short walk to the beach entrance. There is an entry fee of $100 per person but it is worth it because it includes free use of umbrellas along the beach, fresh water showers and good bathrooms. After you pay to get in you walk over a bridge to get to the beach front. There were 2 lifeguards on duty the entire time we were there. You can rent lockers, hair dryers, surf boards and boogie boards if you want. If you go back across the bridge (close to the hotel) you can buy drinks/snacks.
The water was warm and the beach was very clean. We really enjoyed our day here.
There were quite a few long boarders and paddle boarders riding the small waves. This would be a good place to learn how to surf because the waves a small and they break slowly.Written 1 August 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This one, however, is a great option for those visiting Tamsui! The landscape is very dramatic - which makes walking beside the waves an even bigger treat. At the far end of the beach, there are trails along the coastline that provide some spectacular settings for sunsets. You can see "windkanters" (volcanic rocks shaped by the wind) and coral reefs. It is a large and sandy beach, so you don't have to fight for space. You can even rent tents and surfboards in the summer for cheap. There are also plenty of cafes and restaurants along the main road with all kinds of fare from fresh seafood and Tex-Mex to refreshing shaved ice and baked goodies. It is also accessible by public transportation (Bus 862 runs every hour during the week and every half hour on weekends from the Tamsui MRT station). The only downside of this beach is how long it takes to get back from there. From Tamsui, this beach is only a 30 minute bus ride away (traffic dependent!). HOWEVER, if you are staying in Taipei, be warned that it could take up to 2.5 hours to arrive back at your hotel/hostel/etc.Written 17 October 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Woods231Taichung, Taiwan90 contributionsThis beach is at a tiny fishing harbor barely noticeable with two jetties. It is probably the closest sandy beach to Hualien city and about 20 minutes closer to the more well known Ciji Beach farther south. The beach is perhaps a kilometer long and has 3 large covered pavilions on the sand which offer shelter from the weather. Although the surf might be too rough to safely swim, it is an attractive beach with a 10 car parking lot and broken down bathroom in poor condition.
Although it is a sandy beach about 1/3 of it is covered with pebble rock patches. There is a coast guard station off the beach with a Taiwanese flag flying. Look for km marker 17 on Highway 11 and turn sharp left turn toward the ocean after the bus stop when you see a small red and white sign indicating the intersection ahead. There is a large fishing boat by the side of the road which is parked as a monument to the fishing village. Descend below and pass the small temple shrine to enter the parking lot.Written 6 February 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. To get there you must climb over rocks ranging from bowling ball to car size. I’m 49 and in good health and it took me 15-20 minutes to go from where the street ended to the place where people get in the water.
Make sure you wear closed-toe shoes as the hike can be treacherous. I didn’t know this and wore sandals. I made it but it would have been much better if I had appropriate foot wear. Many people wore booties they rented from the dive shops in the area. They worked but I recommend shoes.
I do not recommend this place for people with foot, knee or leg problems. I think the walk would be too difficult.
Next time I go I will bring everything I need in a backpack so my hands are free to help me get over the big rocks. I will also being more drinking water as well as food. The hike from your car to the water is so far that you won’t want to go back unless it is absolutely necessary.
Longdong is very popular especially on weekends. We went on a Saturday around 11 am and there were already hundreds of people enjoying the water. If you want to take advantage of the free parking you should get there earlier.
If you need to rent snorkeling gear there are quite a few places to choose from. There are even little shops to buy drinks. I only saw one bathroom / shower facility. It was right along the path to the snorkeling beach. There is a small fee to use either of them.
Over all I was so glad that we went here to go snorkeling. I loved every minute of my day here.
I hope my advice will help someone avoid making the mistakes that I made my first time going.Written 4 August 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
