Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- geo3Calgary, Canada2,448 contributionsThis was the second half of a day trip from Dresden by train, with the morning and early afternoon taken up by a trip to Rothen/the Bastei Bridge. That left only about 2 1/2 hours for Koenigstein, and that's not enough. It's not a castle as such, but a castle complex, with many buildings with the walls, many of them having displays to explore.
Had there been time to explore everything within the castle complex, this review might have become a five-star review. I missed a lot due to lack of time. So - set aside enough time to explore this place thoroughly, at a relaxed pace.
The views from the castle to the Elbe River valley are impressive.
The 5 Euro fare for the small train from the main square in Koenigstein is worth the money, I think, as the trek up to the castle from the town has quite a bit of elevation gain, and the train takes you right to the entrance to the castle. (If you come by car and park in the castle parking lot, you will still have a bit of a hike, as the castle parking lot is about halfway down the hill and a few hundred metres from the castle entrance). I ended up walking down, however, as the castle closes later than the time of the last train down, so walking down allowed some extra time in the castle complex. The walk down is enjoyable, through quiet forest.

Overall, a great half-day destination.Written 29 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Even the older kids loved it and didn’t want to leave. The activities included in the entry are physically challenging enough to wear them out and keep them entertained or you can pay more for the “high adrenalin” extras.Written 11 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TSRIsrael82 contributionsWe just came there to visit the Fortress, but found this great attraction (mainly) for kids.
Great rope park with several kinds of rope paths from easy to more complicated.
In spite it seem scary - it is very safe. Actually it is impossible to find yourself not secured when you off the ground.
For 13 Euro each you and/or your kids got 2 hours of enjoyable climbing.
For 17 Euro - you get the access to more advanced paths.
Parking is in the main Fortress paring garage and you even get some discount from the attraction.
The place itself is under the big trees which give a good shadow - good for sunny and warm day.Written 9 August 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
