Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- SHAUNMerrimack, NH10 contributionsWe just got home from our 7th fabulous trip to Barcelo Beach. I would like to thank the reception staff, the bar staff, the staff at the pool, housekeeping staff and all of the restaurant staff for a great trip!!!!!!!!! I will give a quick rundown of the restaurant's we visited this trip. Caribe, Hoyo 19, Miramar and La Brisa. Food was fabulous as always. The selection is almost too much to choose from. We also ate at Dolce Vita, La Fuente and Kyoto. These are all up charges of $15.00 per person which is nothing. I have to say that the most food per menu dish was at Dolce Vita. In a nut shell, if you go hungry its your fault. You can't go wrong in the Caribbean.
Now the only thing I wish would change is that Barcelo fixes the mini golf. My wife and I, brother and sister in law used to play after breakfast every day. They took up the fake grass and it isn't the same. I wish they would build a mini golf course like we have here!!!! But that wont deter us from going back. Trip number 8 already planned. !!!!!!!!Written 23 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 726cathyw5 contributionsThe description says you have to hike and that is 100% true! There are a few spots where there will be breaks but it’s a lot of walking. You have to walk through trails that are grassy, wooded and have rocks. Although there are paths and stairs, be sure to wear good soled shoes. Wearing some old walking shoes (sneakers) that you don’t care about getting wet or dirty would be better than wearing basic water shoes. If you have a fear of water this may not be for you. However, if you are adventurous and not afraid to try it, let the tour guides know you can’t swim they will take care of you. I can’t swim and they were right there in the water when I hit it to be sure I knew they were going to make sure I was all good. The tour guides and crew at the Damajagua waterfalls were amazing!Written 13 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Delphine HOttawa, Canada125 contributionsBeautiful spot of nature in the middle of the city. Easy access with Uber. You need to purchase tickets online in advance. We did not hire a guide. Make sure to pack water, the heat and humidity is extremely high at the bottom.Written 1 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Justin J1 contributionI am a little late posting this, however we were able to meet and spend time with Argenis Rodriguez (Kevin Hart) on 2 different dates in October (11th and 25th). He was great on both dates and my family loved him..!
He was a great guide and made sure we had everything we needed to have an awesome time..! He is great at his job and we would definitely come back solely based on our interaction with him... He is a fun, awesome, kind, and attentive person and we wish him the best..!

He provided refreshments, spoke about the local businesses, economy and other trivia to acquaint us with the area. Kudos to Manuel for a safe and informative trip.Written 30 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - cenztOhio21,285 contributionsGreat trip. We arrived at approximately 2 pm and made our way towards the entrance of the building. After paying the admission fee, we made our way towards the line to get onto the cable car. The ride on the cable car lasted roughly 10 minutes and the views were absolutely spectacular. We were surrounded by the lush forests beneath us. Once we reached the top, we started to explore the park. The park was quite beautiful and consisted of a paved walking trail that took us for a loop around the park. We stopped at several places alongside the loop, in order to view the statue of Christ, the cave, an old cabin, and walk the bridge. There were informational plaques in front of several of the attractions, that detailed what we were seeing in front of us. We were surrounded by trees and nature as we walked the trails.
Tip: I recommend spending 2 hours here if you truly want to see everything.Written 26 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - w bPembroke Pines, FL8 contributionsGood place for a late afternoon stroll or evening dinner. Restaurant buche Perico is recommended in the evening. - musicdebbieSalt Lake City, UT44 contributionsWe did this excursion through our cruise ship. We had a great time! Other reviews had me nervous that it wouldn’t be a great day, but it was a perfect day! Ferries picked us up in port and shuttled us to the dock at Catalina Island. The staff were waiting for us and quickly got our chairs and umbrellas set up for us. Facilities were good. There is a nature trail with signage showing what animals inhabit the island. The beach is beautiful and clean. There wasn’t food available, but we knew that before we came and packed accordingly. We would definitely do this again!Written 11 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Falls GirlKissimmee, FL519 contributionsIt is well worth the effort it takes to drive to this beach located off the main road towards Las Galeras in Samana Province, Dominican Republic. Look for the sign on the left if you're coming from Samana immediately after you pass the Texaco station (a great place for bathroom pit stops and snacks). There are two parts to this beach. You want to turn RIGHT. If you get to the end of the road and turn left, you will find the part of the beach more developed and heavily used by locals.
Turn right, and slowly wind your way down the beach. Enjoy the sheer natural beauty as you drive through the palm-tree lined road in the sand. This gorgeous beach is typically uncrowded, and has a small, rustic restaurant which serves delicious food including chicken and traditional fried whole fish. You must try the pescado entero frito while in the D.R.! If you come across someone selling pan de coco (Dominican coconut bread) try that, too, especially if it’s still warm.
This beach has toilets, but you are better off stopping at the Texaco station first. Some of the beach chairs are in better shape than others, but expect to pay about 100 pesos (two bucks) to use each one. Bring towels and a cooler, and plenty of sunscreen. For those not used to tropical vacations, you can get a trip-ruining sunburn in about fifteen minutes of unprotected direct sun.
Yes, the vendors can be aggressive but please remember this is how they feed their families, so don’t be cheap if you are buying something. A simple, “No, gracias,” should keep them moving.
If you are visiting Las Galeras, Las Terrenas, Samana Town, or staying anywhere on Samana Province, this beach is an absolute must-see.
We're locals, and we ask that you please do us and your fellow visitors a favor: skip the obnoxious ATV tour of this beach. This is the last place anyone should ever drive an ATV. Why spoil the tranquility for someone else with a loud, stinky, polluting vehicle? Have some consideration for nature, too. Thank you.Written 28 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Shelia OChicago, IL12 contributionsIf on a cruise leave the port and search out an excursion. Much cheaper than those offered thru the cruise line. We found Amber Cove to be beautiful and clean. We left the Cove for a tour to Puerta Plata. So enjoyed the tour and our tour guide Pablo.
