Overall a great day at Scape Park. We were picked up from our Punta Cana resort and took around 40min drive to Scape Park. We went on a Wednesday morning 9:30am, the park was fairly empty and did not have to wait in any lines. We decided to buy a lock for the lockers for $5, they are fairly small (fits one school backpack).
Zip line:
- We decided to start with the ecosplash zipline as it closes between 12pm-2pm. We were quickly put into harness and helmet and sent on our way. The Zipline included 5 courses (each with different heights and endings). It was my first time ziplining, the workers were mostly friendly and helpful. The rough landing at the end of each zipline did hurt a little. Note: wear a shirt if you have a sunburn, as the harness will dig into your sunburn and hurt.
Hammock Swing and Rope Jump:
- when you finish the zipline you will end where the hammock swing is located. You have to go around to another area to pick up life jackets first. the hammock swing was enjoyable with two different heights. We did this one multiple times. We did notice sometimes the workers are not paying attention and they might not put the hammock fully comfortably around your legs (few times I had to fix it while moving so I don’t fall off). Also if the workers are not paying attention your ending might be a little rough. We enjoyed this more than the zipline.
- the rope jump was a little scary. You swing down on a bar with your hands, when the workers blow a whistle your suppose to let go and jump into the water. However we saw a few people who didn’t hear or understand and kept holding on, this results in hitting a ring on the line and belly flopping into the water. If your not careful this one can hurt. A few acrobatic kids seem to really enjoy this one.
Lunch:
- before going to scape park we read lots of reviews saying how bad and expensive the food was. The night before going we decided to order hamburgers from room service and took them in ziplock bags along with chips and drinks from the mini fridge. We found this a perfect solution and helped to save money.
Cave Swim and Hoya Azul:
- please wear good shoes doing both. The trails leading to both attractions are quite rocky and hurt walking in water shoes.
- cave swim was a cold but fun attraction. It is small cave so can get very crowded if busy but wasn’t too bad in the actual water, it was mostly the small walkway getting into the water that was busy (lots of families standing there and not exiting or entering the water). Wear water shoes on the water because the bottom is quite rocky and sharp in certain areas.
- Hoya azul was a bit of a letdown. Looked much nicer in pictures. The standing area around the actual cenote had lots of wasps and spider webs. The jump was fun but got lots of water up my nose and ears.
Bus back to resort
- when we arrived at scape park our bus driver said to meet him back at 5pm, when asked if there was an earlier bus he said no only 5pm. After lunch, around 12:30pm we decided to go ask the information desk about the bus back to resort again. We were informed there was one at 3pm but we needed to sign up. We gave all our information and told to come back to information desk at 2:50pm. At 2:50pm, we were given a little sheet to hand to a worker at the exit. There was a large group of people waiting when we arrived. The buses are split between various resorts in either Punta Cana or Cap Cana area. The worker would call out your resort name and you just had to board the bus and wait. The drive back took a little over 1 hour because we had to visit a few different resorts to let people off. This was much better option than waiting until 5pm. We recommend talking to information desk if you want to leave early.
A few negative aspects:
- There is another separate zip line called Superman Zipline. We were told by the information desk that you needed to make a reservation for that located right beside ecosplash zipline. When we went at 10am, we were told that the reservations for that morning were full and that we should come back at 1pm to make reservations. We came back around 12:40pm (earlier than what we were told) and were told again that the reservations for 1pm are full and will have to come back at 2pm. Annoyed at this point because at 10am we were told 1pm and then at 1pm told 2pm. The guy working the station told us to wait around the area and he’ll see if he can get us. Tired of wasting time we decided to leave for other attractions.
- WASPS all the wasps all over the park; everywhere you went there was wasps (trails, waiting on zipline, change rooms, restaurant seating, etc.)
