- john CSan Diego, CA28 contributionsI stopped by for a visit, but the museum was closed due to Covid. The art Nouveu style mansion was built in 1907 by Don Manuel Gameros.Written 16 December 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KiararamirezCalifornia207 contributionsI wasn't expecting a tour, I thought I would just walk through it myself, It was a pleasant surprise. First we sit and watch a short film about how menonites settled in Chihuahua, then we start the tour. It was very informative, the guide is a menonite herself, she had a sense of humor and it wasn't too long or boring, then she gave us time to look at some of the rooms by ourselves, then we walked out to the shop, it's not very big but it has plenty to see and purchase. I really enjoyed it.Written 27 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- JAF1 contributionWe went twice with our 3 year old son when we were in CJ for my husband's immigration interview. My son was occupied for hours and did not want to leave. The staff was very sweet. You may want to pack a lunch. The food was limited to pizza and soda when we were there. There were many different areas and things to explore and I was able to relax as I had been quite anxious about the trip.Written 18 May 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - V BChicago, IL39 contributionsSolid museum of the Revolution focusing on Pancho Villa life. It is run by Mexico Military, no English material, guides, etc. It is worth spending 30-60 min there.Written 20 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - maritimeexplorerNova Scotia, Canada3,968 contributionsCopper Canyon has some great waterfalls including 870 foot Basaseachi, but most involve a fairly serious hike to get to them. The one exception is Cusarare Falls which while no walk in the park, is quite accessible for most people in decent shape and it's definitely worth getting to.
This is not a place you are likely to find on your own, but there are several ways of getting there. First you can stay at the very rustic Sierra Lodge from where there is an easy 3 km. trail which you can do on your own or pay for a guided tour from the lodge. The second way is to take a day tour from the magico pueblo of Creel which will includes the falls and some of the amazing rock formations in the area.. Depending on the type of vehicle you can get to within almost a kilometre of the falls by parking by the pedestrian suspension bridge. This does involve one crossing of the usually shallow river by your vehicle. If the river is too high you will need to walk in from the other side which is about the same distance as the Sierra Lodge trail and the two join up after the bridge.
The pine forests of Chihuahua are beautiful and fragrant and a pleasure to walk through. Long before you get to the falls you will come across the Tarahumara indigenous vendors selling their wares. They are not aggressive and will not bother you if you choose not to browse. However, their handmade products are ridiculously cheap and you might want to stop on your way back.
Don't be surprised if you get a young child who will tag along with you as I did and probably a dog or two as well.
The trail arrives at the top of the falls where there are some very nice spots for photos of the falls which are very impressive in both the length of the drop and the width.
The best views are from the bottom, but this involves going down and back up a couple of hundred stairs each way. From what I could tell on my visit most people stayed at the top. My recommendation is to go down and then take it very slowly going back up as you will notice the elevation here.
Definitely one of the highlights of the Copper Canyon area and not to be missed.Written 7 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - john CSan Diego, CA28 contributionsA beautiful Baroque style Cathedral built in 1725. The actual name is the Church of the Holy Cross, Our Lady of Regla and St. Francis of Assisi. The vaulted ceilings inside are amazing, as is the Central altar and the Pipe organ with its two angels. The exterior is very ornate, and still has many of the original bells in the two Church towers. The Church holds Catholic Masses for the Public so please be respectful when entering.Written 19 December 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DALE FEl Dorado Hills, CA35 contributionsFly into Chihuahua, Chihuahua (CUU) and take the Chepe train (no it’s not Cheap) to Creel. Arrange for a private driver to take you on a tour of the waterfalls, the area with all the rock formations and stop by one of the family areas where they still live in caves. If you timing is right they will invite you into their home. It is amazing to stand there and see four generations of the same family living in one living quarters. Yes from grandma all the way down to a two year old living and sleeping in the same cave room. No electricity and no appliances. Firewood and a hand grinder to pulverize the corn. Fishing and hunting, a few chickens in a ten foot high elevated chicken coop to keep the foxes, mountain lions away. We were told they have a life expectancy about five years longer than folks who live in the city with few modern day diseases. Then hand make a lot of crafts and sell them to us tourists. Both the train and the area are amazing and very safe.Written 22 December 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Gary YToronto, Canada37 contributionsThe lake is a short distance from town so very easy to reach. You could spend a few hours enjoying the local forest area with a picnic lunch and then taking time to row in the lake. If there is a strong wind don't get too far out :) ..... the lake isn't clear so swimming likely isn't recommended.Written 4 April 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - bigboy61455xxx1,220 contributionsIt is a shame that not many visitor and reviews to this wonderful UNESCO world heritage site. This was the most important ruins, major trading headquarter for natives in Northern Mexico with massive maze like structures seen. Also has very artsy museum which needs some repair and closed during Covid pandemic right now. But they are nice enough to let us use bathroom.
Plus we had excellent sunset photos while visiting and also enjoy view of nearby mountains and birds.Written 18 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was sunny and windy the day we arrived and there was a spray from the cascada that created a rainbow that was constantly changing. It should be a part of any visit to Chihuahua.Written 28 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
