My friends and I booked this half day excursion and overall we had a great time!
To start off, they picked our group of 8 up from our resort along with 4 more people from a nearby hotel. The driver then took us to a supermarket, parked and got off the van, then a random guy opened the van door and started trying to sell us bandanas and water resistant phone cases. Obviously this is all a part of their business.
After we refused to buy anything, the guy left and we waited in the van for another 5 mins. A different guy with a green Maya Adrenaline shirt opened the van door and told our group of 8 to get off the van because we were going to be transported in a different van. The other 4 people stayed on the van and were taken to the excursion. I'm not really sure why we got kicked off the van and had to wait another 5-10 mins to get picked up again.
Once we arrived at the excursion, yet another guy opened the van door to sell us bandanas and water resistant phone cases. We ended up buying bandanas (because you actually need them unless you want dust all over your face) and paid the rest of our excursion total, there is a charge to use card, so bring cash if you don't want to overpay.
Our guide told us that we'd have to do our excursions in a different order because there was a lot of groups in front of us. So we started with the Mayan ceremony, then the ziplines, then the cenote, and ended with ATVs. Honestly the order didn't matter because we still had a lot of fun! I was a little wary of the Mayan ceremony because I don't really mess with stuff like that so if you don't want to participate don't feel pressured to.
One thing to note is there are lockers once you get past the first long zipline but you have to carry your stuff with you ON the long zipline to get to the lockers which I found to be a bit odd. The first zipline was the highest and the longest but also the slowest so if you're carrying your stuff in a bag you'll be fine. The other 2 after that were faster but a short distance.
After the ziplines we went back to the lockers to change before the cenote. There are some rooms with a curtain you can use to change into your swimsuit but I just wore my swimsuit underneath my clothes so I wouldn't have to do that. The cenote was really the most unique and best part!! You'll get lifejackets and a flashlight to swim through the cenote cave and see bats above you, as long as you don't scream and scare them, they won't fly around. After the cenote we changed and went to the ATVs. Some of the ATVs were breaking down during our ride but the guides were there to help start back up. I don't believe it was a 45 min ride but we were pretty tired so we didn't really care. Lastly, we had our lunch and were presented with all the photos they took of our group throughout the excursion. We ended up buying the group photos because the memories are worth it! Split between the 8 of us we paid around $14 each for the photos.
After we finished our lunch, our transportation was ready to take us back to our hotel. Although there were a few things that could've been better like the overall organization and timing of the transportation, our group ended up having a blast.
Things to note:
- Bring a bandana for dust on ATV
- Wear swimsuit underneath clothes
- Bring water shoes for cenote (there are sharp rocks in some parts)
- Bring money for tips
