What travellers are saying
- Robert JLondon, UK4 contributionsWow! My son and I decided to take a day trip up to York to see the trains and visit some other museums. My son who has autism was desperate to see all the trains on display. We booked a free ticket and we donated as we would have been more than happy to pay to enter. Some areas have been cut off for decorating which was a shame but you can see some changes are happening for new areas. It was just how I remember as a child but I think the trains have gotten smaller! I confess to be a secret train enthusiast. It was very SEN friendly with interactive parts and areas including the wonderlab exhibit. We used the cafe for lunch and had a good selection of food. If you want to spend hours somewhere free then this is place to be. Both of us did not want to leave. - LauraDaveJamesSolihull, UK5,250 contributionsThis is a lovely historic street in the centre of York. In our experience, it can become very crowded and feels quite uncomfortable in those conditions. It is better to visit either early morning or later in the evening when it is not so crowded. Or in this case on a cold day in January.Written 31 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- sunrise99Yorkshire891 contributionsYork Minster towers over the centre of York. Well worth a visit and looked gorgeous in the Winter Sunlight. It was heartening to hear the bells ringing today.
Close by we viewed the ice sculptures scattered around the city which were amazing and attracted the old and young.
York is a place I visited as a child and continue to visit today.Written 2 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There was so much to see though that we stayed until closing! It’s absolutely huge and jam packed with interesting oddities. The street exhibit is so beautifully displayed, it really gives the impression it’s someone’s fantastic passion project. I can’t imagine how much work goes into maintaining a collection this size.
The prison exhibit was spooky and creepy but really interesting. The area of the museum dedicated to Yorks part in the Great War and WW2 was so interesting. And my personal favourite exhibits were the 60s exhibit and the fashion exhibit.
I can’t recommend this museum enough, great value as it’s deceptively large.Written 2 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Maybe one thing would be to have heated lights in the outdoor cabins as it was freezing but the kids had a great timesWritten 9 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We left the experience with much more knowledge of chocolate and sweets of York and the surrounding areas and would highly recommend.Written 9 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CassimaSKBicester, UK371 contributionsI loved this kind of attraction as city walls are accessible from the multiple points around the old town and there are not too many people on your way.
The only downside would be that entrances do close at around the sunset time but it's understandable I guess due to the safety reasons.Written 16 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Robert JLondon, UK4 contributionsWe came straight from the dungeons after being shown a deal which helped us out a lot. It was good with my SEN son. I was a bit unsure if to visit after the experience in the dungeon but we decided to give it a go. He started to get a bit restless going around on the ride. It might have been the smell inside and the dummies which I don’t think he likes. But he loved the exhibit at the end and he took home a Viking coin which was nice. The team are nice and very knowledgeable about Viking history. I liked the winter theme and was a big change when I came as a child. Thank you Jorvik Viking centre!Written 5 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- nmaidwell123Middlesbrough, UK485 contributionsDue to thick snow the Abbey and gardens were closed. The deer park was stunning in the snow and the deer were amasing.
