I hesitated giving these falls five stars because of the crowd situation. However, these falls are a must see on a trip to the Icefields Parkway. There are paved paths around the falls. Do not miss the section of the trail that takes you through a former channel of the falls down to the river.

Like Valley of the Five Lakes, this is a very busy trail. However, you can avoid some of the hassle of the crowds by parking at the bottom of the canyon instead of at the trailhead. As you drive to the canyon along the Maligne Lake Road, be on the lookout for the Fifth Bridge parking area to avoid the disappointment of driving to the top and not finding any available parking. The round trip hike from the fifth bridge to the first bridge is about three miles. The section between third and first bridge is the busiest section of the trail and the most beautiful. Take time to enjoy the scenery and the awesome force of the river.

Ben did a awesome job driving us to the glacier. I would recommend, it was once in a life time experience. It was much better then even expected. Everyone working here was so kind.

We visited Maligne Lake in May 2016 and did the Spirit Island cruise. This time, we popped over to see what, if anything, had changed and to grab some lunch.

Both times we have visited we have been blessed with wildlife (bears in 2016 and elk in July 2023).

We popped into the main café to find that it was very expensive. A basic sandwich had a cost of $17.50. So we gave it a miss and walked over to the Waffle Hut instead (see other review) and this was much better value.

We took some pictures of the area and had to make a quick dash to shelter when a thunderstorm passed through. Once it had cleared, we retook the photos as blue skies appeared. It was an afternoon of two halves.

The journey to the Lake is well worth it but I feel it has become over touristy (along with most of the Rockies now).

Quick and easy to get to, these lakes are worth a visit if you are in Jasper. They are just a few kilometres along Pyramid Lake Road to the north of the township. Subalpine forests and rocky mountain peaks create a stunning background for these two beautiful lakes. The reflection of Pyramid Mountain in the waters of Patricia Lake is a photo worth snapping! The highlight of Pyramid Lake is a walk across the bridge to Pyramid Island. The lakes are a hub for a variety of recreational activities including camping, picnicking, hiking, boating, and swimming.

This was one of several “quick & easy hikes” (oxymoron) we did during our visit to the Canadian Rockies this Fall. Totally worth it. Highly recommend visiting the stream/pond area that’s on a short side road you drive past on the way in/out of the Glacier area.

The tram runs regularly through the day. The trip to the top provides some spectacular views of Jasper. We did the walk to the summit which provided some more spectacular views at the top and a nice walk to add to the trip

A very enjoyable experience with excellent guides Gabby, Nicole Caitlin and Devon. We were lucky to have a wonderful clear night with both visual and Electronically assisted views with large 20 inch Dobsonian telescope. Well worth the visit. .
DRESS WARM, Even a warm day will get very cool into the night especially a clear one.

We did the Maligne Lake and Spirit Island boat cruise. The scenery is so beautiful it looks exactly like the postcards. The journey to and from Spirit Island is made even better by the commentary by Connor and the expertise of the Captain Brooke. Would do this cruise again

This was one of my favourite views. You can see 3 glaciers at once and the chance to see calving as the one lake by the glacier has small ice bergs in it. It is about a 30 minute drive up and you can only do it in a vehicle that doesn’t have trailer because the roads are very windy. It is a short uphill hike but most of it is paved. There are also some nice views on the way

There are lots of beautiful falls and canyons along the Icefields Parkway. The Sunwapta Falls were our last stop after a long day of sightseeing on the parkway. We were fortunate to find the falls nearly empty. Most visitors make a quick stop a the upper falls. There is also a longer hike of about two miles round trip to the lower falls. If you have the time, it is a nice quiet hike. The lower falls are not as impressive as the upper falls.

We decided to skip the Columbia Ice Fields tour as we had landed on a glacier in a helicopter in Alaska in the past. If you have never walked on a glacier then consider the tour but it is pricey, close to $150 per person. Instead we noticed folks walking up a dirt path across the street from the Columbia Ice Fields Discovery Center where you buy tickets for the tours. We drove over and parked in a small lot, which was crowded around noon in late September. Just as we got out of the car, the rangers were closing the bathrooms for the season and said that this hike would be closed in the morning because of getting snow overnight! We bundled up as the wind was whipping and cold and walked up about a half mile uphill, mostly dirt, some rocks, needed to rest halfway up. Once over the crest of the dirt hill you are facing the large, Athabasca glacier. We did not walk downhill to the foot of the glacier as we were freezing. There are signs along the way that indicate the tremendous melting of the glacier over the past century. Would recommend this over the tour if you do not want to spend the money.
