Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.

I have mixed feelings about writing this review because Koh Rong is definitely in the midst of a strange transition.

Post covid this place like a lot of Cambodia was devastated. A lot of businesses closing and the local people having to come together to help each other. The main village of Koh Touch reflects this- high prices and closed businesses.

The pollution on the island is not good. We stayed at a fancy resort where they obviously work very hard to keep it clean but we still were picking up plastic rubbish off the beach. We went on a snorkelling tour and the amount of marine waste and rubbish in the coral beds was terrible. I imagine the local people are focussed on building themselves back up after covid but some serious consideration into sorting out the pollution is desperately needed. Koh Touch is just riddled with rubbish. The beaches are beautiful and the water is crystal blue and so warm. I cannot stress the urgency for cleaning up and protecting this island.

The island now has concrete roads which makes getting around very easy. Tuk tuks, mopeds can be hired. Tuk tuks and taxis are $$ but if you are travelling as a large group as we were it's not too bad and you can often negotiate.

The port to get to Koh Rong is not good. Sihanoukville is a Chinese investment wasteland and makes me very sad to see Khmer people being forced out of their homeland for investors that don't even end up finishing their projects. I also suspect a lot of the rubbish comes from Sihanoukville. I spoke to a local Khmer in Sok San village and he predicts that the Chinese investment will explode on Koh Rong. He explained the local people feel powerless to stop this from happening. My advice- visit here soon before it becomes Sihanoukville 2.0.

A wonderful stay at this resort. Family deluxe garden bungalow had two separate rooms and ensuite facilities. Travelled with adult son. It was a wonderful spot with a gorgeous quiet beach. Resort prices were high in relation to other places we visited, but they have the monopoly when taking card payments on the island.

First stop off in Koh Rong. Nice bungalows, great views. Run by a friendly family. We were offered a transport service from the pier which was really appreciated. We were also able to rent a moped from the family at a discounted rate to get out and explore the area. Stayed for 3 nights and swam with plankton, saw a fire show, and took a snorkelling tour. Great location although a little difficult to get out and about without a moped.

We decided to walk from Koh Tuch beach. It took us about an hour each way along the gravel road along the coast. You could rent your own scooter for about $20 a day or pay scooter taxi - not sure how much they cost. Recommend going early as it is very hot amd sunny. Remember to take water and a hat. We didn't walk to far end of Long Beach where fishing village is located. Nice beach with white sands and clear blue waters. Had a swim and headed back for our walk.

It was most likely the time of year we were visiting, but the price was quite high and there were very few people attending. Drinks were expensive and you has to pay to rent the plastic cup. The DJ was okay, but there were very few people on the dance floor. It is also quite far on the end of the island, but is a fine walk with a flashlight, at night.

The hostel is clean and well presented (if only it had WiFi It would be worth the $5) No reception so you have to catch the one guy who works there to check in or extend. Mosquito nets had no holes and some towels were provided. The bar plays bad Cambodian music (not only the karaoke is bad) it ends by 11 so its one of the quieter places on the island but it seems strange they don't want to attract tourists but is a proper family place.

I did two fun dives with Koh Rong Dive Center and I have nothing but good things to say. They were friendly, flexible, and welcoming.

The main attraction of the area is the amazingly healthy coral. The Island itself is good for either relaxing or partying depending on where you choose to stay.

Koh Rong dive center was a fun company to dive with. If I go back to Koh Rong I will dive with them again.

Had a fabulous time on this island on the quads. Our guide was amazing and took us w/o where all the locals live, eat and drink. Some live on stilted shacks on the sea where underneath are net where the breed fish to eat.
Would recommend to anybody who likes quad biking, the terrain can be some what exciting at times
