Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Leon L10 contributionsA brilliant interactive journey through computing history where you are actually allowed to use, program and play on the computers. There are arcade games, ZX Spectrums, Amstrads, Commodores and all the consoles ever made. It also tells the story of computer history and Cambridge's huge involvement in lots of the innovations. Very accessible and all on one level.Written 1 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Heidi C28 contributionsNothing else to say other than amazing. I came here with my Dad and the best thing about this place wasn’t even the artefacts or displays, it was the volunteers running the place and the stories they were able to tell us.
The items were personal and all had stories to tell and the volunteers clearly have genuine passion and heart for every single one of them. We were there for two hours and didn’t get through the whole museum. We were too busy talking to the volunteers and hearing everything they had to say about the museum, the area and the items.
We will 100% be returning to complete the museum and if you come here please don’t be afraid to talk to the staff, you will miss a whole lot if you don’t. The stories they tell are priceless and can’t be found anywhere else.
Well worth the visit and is a must see if you are in the areaWritten 30 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I wish it had been more interactive but the fact that letters and diaries from the expedition are exhibited is quite compelling.Written 14 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Frances BYorkshire, UK2,711 contributionsI really enjoyed my visit to the Museum of Archeology and Anthropology (MAA). It is a university museum and although only relatively small by museum standards, it still holds many incredibly important artefacts, works of art, documents and photographs representative of humanity’s history.
I found it all very thought provoking. There are some really amazing exhibits and although I initially felt a little uncomfortable how some of the items on display had been obtained and removed from their indigenous homes, I took the trouble to educate myself further on the museum and its ethics in relation to such items.
This research taught me that MAA is actually one of the first UK museums to return artefacts to a nation of origin (Uganda 1961) and since this time has been committed to cultural exchange and collaborative scholarship, involving local and indigenous people associated with the collections.
The museum is set over three floors. The ground floor tells all the local history and displays artefacts discovered in the local area. The following two floors are dedicated to artefacts obtained from other parts of the world, from their indigenous communities.
I really enjoyed my visit. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The museum can be easily enjoyed in a relatively short amount of time.
It has some wonderful exhibits, including some of the Benin bronzes, which are now on loan to the museum. There is also a wonderful totem pole that just fits into its home, the carving of which is much more detailed at the bottom than at the top (the master craftsmen working at the bottom and their apprentices working at the top). There is also part of the stone screen from Winchester Cathedral, and countless other wonderful curiosities and pieces of history.
In my opinion, a museum certainly worthy of a visit and one which is free to enter, requesting only a donation.Written 25 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. An amazing collection of plaster casts of world famous classical sculptures. The casts themselves are precious artefacts from historic private collections. An extraordinary assemblage of Greek and Roman art, which is of equal interest to scholars, artists or for anyone looking to spend some time in a very unusual museum.Written 5 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Anne MSheffield, UK16 contributionsWhat a lovely place! It covers a lot of social history and we both learned a great deal. The museum is bigger than we were expecting and apples to a wide range of interests. Some of the exhibits did not have any/much information about them, but they are trying to address this. We spent longer than we expected to, and were not disappointed.Written 5 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
