Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Bob WSandown, England, United Kingdom271 contributionsAlmost essential to understanding Alderney, and really helpful to those who are prepared to give back to the communities that welcome them for holidays. Great displays, valuable insights, and guardian of that which could so easily be lost if current trends continue, namely the Alderney of people whose roots go deep in the windswept yet sun-kissed soil.Written 10 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Marianne CBurnham, UK971 contributionsIsland is only 3.5 miles long, with tons of many empty white sand beaches peppered with forts, castles, other German built defences. Hire e-bikes and scoot around at leisure. Lots of picnic spots and little roads down to the sands.Written 26 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mark LRichmond, UK6 contributionsWhite sands and turquoise seas. Right next to the Saye Beach Campsite. The water is cold but work giving it a go.Written 19 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Tink HGuernsey, UK3 contributionsThis beautiful church we could see from our hotel window so we had to pay it a visit. We heard the peal of the bells on a Sunday morning which was very cheery.
The church looked great from the outside. It is beautiful on the inside too. The stain glass windows were colourful.
I bought a tea towel and we lit a candle for loved ones which have passed. Overall a very clean and ethereal place to be.Written 9 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We rode to the Odeon on e-bike and it was well worth the visit.Written 13 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - OnAir386118340842 contributionsDon't you just love reviews...... couldn't stop laughing @ Russ S review of Corblets (Aug 2016) as they must have moved it since his visit (It's 3 beaches round the island from the harbour & you can't see Burhou as that is east of Alderney & Corblets faces north.
Visited for 1st time in 40+ years at the weekend (it's still in the same place), still unspoilt. Clear water, hardly any people, great swimming & surf, no burger vans, do parasols, no jet skis, no sunbeds, no bars, no facilities. Great sand for playing ball games (not soft), fabulous views, rock pools to explore. What more do you want?Written 6 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was inhabited in the Iron Age, and by the Romans, who left behind the best preserved fortlet in the British Isles. The German anti-tank wall which backs the beach serves, if anything, to enhance the place.Written 9 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Coach Tripper UK34 contributionsI was lucky to get inside as it is only open on Sundays. ÂŁ4 got me an informative talk on the history of the lighthouse by a man who was careful to allow enough time for us to get up all the stairs and down again with enough time to catch the train back; provided you don't dawdle. It is a spiral staircase and then some steep steps so would not be suitable for the less mobile. The foghorn has been decommissioned which may disappoint a few people. You can take photos inside if you wish.Written 6 December 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- MaryE103Wirral95 contributionsA lot of work has been put into making this an interesting site. new notices are easy to read but be careful where you walk. Your imagination and feet are allowed to run wild without cautionary notices.Written 2 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BubsandCoEdinburgh, UK208 contributionsStraight forward on-line booking.
We were well looked after crossing over to Alderney in the morning and back in the aftenoon. Timings allow a good walk around much of the island as well as opportinuty to explore St A itself.Written 18 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We all found it very interesting and we will not hesitate to recommend you in the future. The wildlife tour sounds really interesting too but not enough time to do that this year!Written 9 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ScotinEnglandSt Anne, UK1,741 contributionsA superb shop for bike hire and beach/clothing purchases. Friendly, informed guidance where to cycle on hire. Helpful maps and nothing too much an effort for advice. Sensible prices for hire both electric and pushbikes.Written 2 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Allie625Wiltshire75 contributionsWe loved this trip. It was wonderful to see so many sea birds close to. Being able to view Alderney from the sea was amazingly special; the coastline is dramatic and we could better appreciate just how heavily the defences built by the Victorians and Germans were. Another thing we were in awe of was the skipper Bugsy's navigation of the treacherous waters. The wildlife guides were both informative and very welcoming. It was the highlight of our stay in Alderney.Written 29 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Chris SBrighton, UK79 contributionsThis was a great experience and well worthwhile. It gave us a good view of the whole island and we went up to the "Odean" for a breathtaking view. It's quirky but fun snd a great part of the Alderney experience. Our thanks to the volunteers who made it possible.Written 15 September 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
