What travellers are saying
- Carol M2 contributionsA trip to the War Tunnels complex during a visit to Jersey is an experience not to be missed. In fact, it’s worth a trip to Jersey just to see it. Impressive, very well organised and interactive, it’s more than an exhibition/museum. You leave with a sense of having been involved in the difficult and frightening lives and stories of ordinary people caught up in the extraordinary hardships of WWII occupation. However, in an uncertain world it’s as relevant today as it was then. The exhibits are almost entirely original, the displays comprehensive and informative, capturing all aspects of the occupation. Be prepared to be totally immersed in the story of wartime Jersey and be ready for the emotion it generates.Written 2 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lords Who TravelPoulton Le Fylde, UK190 contributionsSuch a great visit! From the amphibious vehicle across the bay to the history of the site. There is a lot to see on in the Castle, we had booked onto a tour however when we arrived we just walked about on our own to experience the site.
If you are unsteady on your feet you might struggle, there are a lot of steps and it's uneven but it's history!!
I personally think, the best part of the visit was finding a hidden seating area by the café (middle of the island). There is a sign on the left hand-side, go upstairs and there is a little garden. It made us feel like we were the only people on the island, and lots of sparrows came to visit us. Very enjoyable!Written 25 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rosie TReading, UK352 contributionsThe zoo is amazing and was our most enjoyable experience whilst holidaying in Jersey. Well kept enclosures for the animals and looking around the Gerald Durrell Story was a fascinating insight into this remarkable man. Thoroughly recommended for a great day out. Onsite cafe has a lovely outdoor covered seating terrace to relax on.Written 2 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TheNextDaySydney, Australia447 contributionsThere's a regular bus service to Mt Orgueil from St Helier taking you past some rugged coastline before arriving at the picturesque town of Gorey. There are a few steps to climb to get to the entrance but easily navigable. There are guided tours available but I just went with the £1 map on top of the £16 entrance fee. On the way up a falconer was having some difficulty with his bird. Even before reaching the top it becomes apparent why this is a popular tourist spot as the views of the ocean and Gorey town are spectacular and varied. The castle itself is full of interesting rooms and passageways with enough information to keep you interested. There are plenty of steps to navigate which might prove challenging to those less mobile (and on this particular day there were a few out of control kids running around) but the summit is definitely worth the effort. Monarchists will also enjoy the modern art pictures of the late Queen. Definitely worth a visit.Written 29 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- 9deedeeLeeds, UK180 contributionsWent there on a recent trip with friends for one of the friend's 50th Birthday. She is a wine lover so it felt like a good choice. We went for the basic tour, but there are several options. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. One of our group does not drink alcohol and it was taken into consideration throughout the tour.
The tour itself is informative and definitely worth the money. We were able to taste a cider, sparkling wine, three types of wine in quite generous amounts, as well as the Jersey apple brandy cream, which was served in little chocolate cups and was my favourite.
It was interesting to see all the products produced and offered from the vineyard.
There was a lot of choice in the shop, but due to only having hand luggage and liquid restrictions we were not able to buy much. One of my friends bought the magnet, bottle opener which was very cute, but bear in mind that if you are flying with hand luggage only, it will be taken away. It was classed as a 'potential weapon' so unfortunately my friend came away without the souvenir at the end. However, we were happy to hear from staff that there is a shop at the airport, after security. We were also very pleased that the prices did not seem any higher than at the vineyard shop, so we did get to take some black butter and other goodies home with us to enjoy. Overall, it was a great experience and has something for all budgets. The basic tour was really good value for what we got to enjoy and even with not being a wine lover, I enjoyed the visit a lot and would recommendWritten 27 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We really enjoyed the variety of items on display the knitted undersea scene made by primary school children was amazing, the museum is laid out in a very artistic style with lots of interesting and unique items to look aroundWritten 2 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David C8 contributionsI arrived at the car park and wandered along, following the signs for the museum, it's entrance is fantastic as it is literally in a bunker, and it doesn't look like much at first, then I payed the entrance fee, and went inside, if you go be careful of the uneven surface, and WOW you see the first items of memorabilia, everything is real and I was taken aback with thoughts of how would it have felt like having these soldiers on your soil and what would I have done to survive the ordeal, the stories and photos are amazing and I left very humbled and glad I made the trip to visit this wonderful step back in time.Written 4 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - honestreviewer201Stockport, UK280 contributionsLovely beach to visit, with lots amazing caves. We got the bus from St Helier there which are not as frequent as other places on the island, but plan it and it’s easy. There are car parks which are free. You get to the beach either walking down a lone road or take the steps and path along the coast section. There is a lovely cafe at the top of the beach and public toilets. In high season the cafe gets busy at peak times, but well worth the short wait. Steps down to the beach and then a bridge. Only really accessible at low tide. Lots of lovely caves, perfect for children to explore. Lovely sand and sea lovely to swim in, but only really safe to swim when the lifeguards are there, as there are strong currents.Written 22 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Brendan WBirmingham, UK1,191 contributionsWonderful Museum & tourist information centre & we finally had time to spend a couple of hours having a proper look at everything after two brief visits.
The Victorian House exhibition is exceptional & the animations are the best we have ever seen. We really enjoyed the film about the history of Jersey & also the bon appetite exhibition, which is informative & amusing . Thank you all for helping to make our first visit to Jersey so enjoyable.Written 3 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You are taken inside the mound through a stone "tunnel" but be aware you have to bend down as it's quite low in places. There's a nice car park, toilets, a cafe and shop. Also a small film show to tell you all about the place.Written 11 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ann HYork, UK2,526 contributionsWhat a wonderful place to spend time wandering. No sign of Reg but we felt his effort to make this garden somewhere for everyone. A pond with ducks, an amphitheatre, a swing for the elderly and an area for children's parties to mention but a few . Pretty little cottages, a toadstool.... I could go on but it is so worth a visit.Written 29 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
