Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had a lovely 1.5hr hack on the moors. Paige took me out and she was a fab guide - got to have quite a few canters. I rode a lovely little cob called Oreo - so responsive, she was speedy but had excellent brakes. I had a really fab time and will definitely come again.

Our family of four, two children and us parents had the pleasure of doing a 2 hours ride through the stunning landscape of Dartmoor. Everyone at the Shilstone Rocks Riding Centre was very kind, professional and well organised. Our guide who took us on the hack was absolutely lovely, explained everything calmly and made us feel safe throughout. The ride was incredible, the nature there is a must see in the UK and the horses we were given are lovely and very well behaved. Even my husband who usually is not very keen on horse riding enjoyed it so much he would like to do it again. We recommend Shilstone Rocks Riding Centre highly for whoever wants to experience the beauty of Dartmoor National Park whilst sitting high on a horse.

I haven’t ridden in over a decade, and even then it was sporadic. I had an hour lesson with Connie and I rode the beautiful Rosie. I was a little early and was asked if I wanted to groom Rosie (of course) and then shown the basic bits of tacking up, no question of mine was seen as silly). We started the lesson with a short hack around the lanes then onto some arena work, Rosie truly is a sweetheart! I really wasn’t sure how I was going to get on, and would now put myself as a beginner. That didn’t slow Connie’s teaching in anyway, she started with the basics but in no way patronising. Lots of really helpful tutoring and the lesson was changed up continuously to make sure no one was bored or complacent. Thank you Connie! And Rosie too!

The facilities at Cheston are impeccable, a lovely club house, great staff, beautiful location and some pretty cute ponies and horses.

We had the absolute pleasure of riding at eastlake!! Me and three other friends were on a girls holiday in Cornwall, all being very horsey and experienced we wanted to ride on the moors. Eastlake 100% lived up to our expectations. When turning up we seemed to be the more experienced riders out of the other people that had turned up, the staff noticed this and split us up, allowing us as a group to go for some gallops. The horses completely took us by surprise being lively and forward going, clearly enjoying their job!! Holly took us out for the ride, and all we can say is well done to her for putting up with us being very chatty and loud! Holly definitely made our experience even better than it could of been! Out of the whole holiday, riding at eastlake was by far the highlight (even though we rode on two other occasions being on the beach). If we ever visit Cornwall again we will, without a doubt, be returning to eastlake!!

Had a great hack for 2 hours with Paul. He was chatty and informative and kind on our hack out. We couldn’t go the route we planned so we took another but it meant we were a little late back but had a fab ride up to a canter where we could. Life throws up challenges every now and again and being out on the horses is a great way to feel freedom for a few hours!

Myself and my daughter took my 2 1/2 year old Grandson Henry today. We expected him to be nervous and possibly refuse. However, Hugh was so good with him, and explained everything to him and made sure that Henry had the best time! And he surely did! We will definitely be going again, such a lovely, relaxed atmosphere with animal welfare at the forefront. Massively impressed!.. thank you to Hugh and the gang for a truly lovely experience and a very happy Grandson.

Just returned from the most amazing week-end on the 'Tor to Tor' ride. From start to finish, it was really well organised by Elaine and her team, with lovely little touches along the way (prosecco when we arrived, chocolate brownies to take on the ride and regular tea/coffee stops on the ride). Elaine and her team have a huge amount of knowledge and experience riding on Dartmoor and the accommodation also was lovely. The horses are super and well suited to the job and we had some great canters over the spectacular moors. It was truly breathtaking! With miles and miles of stunning countryside, Dartmoor is a rider's paradise and I will be dreaming of this for a long time.
