Lovely visiting the castle cafe for lunch..we were served by a very kind attentive woman for whom nothing was too much trouble….so wonderful to visit a cafe these days with excellent customer service and a homely welcoming attitude…the food was delicious and generous amounts. I highly recommend the little cafe in the woods. We will be coming again….for sure!

    Fantastic place! 100% recommend.
The owl experience in particular was incredible. Our 6 & 7 year olds loved petting and hugging them. The keeper was so knowledgeable and passionate.
Our kids had a great time feeding the animals.
It's a charming little place, a hidden gem.
The steam railway station that you walk through to get to the farm is so charming and adds to the visit.

Took my partner for the wine tasting experience on Friday!
Three amazing wines finished off with cheese tasting in the cozy barn.
Larissa gave a great tour and very knowledgeable and encouraged us to be interactive.
Bought one of the wines to enjoy at home :)

Really enjoyed this stay. Set in a grade 1 listed stately hall, part of which dating back to medieval times. Very idyllic, beautiful gardens and a great base to explore the local area. This place is now a trust and you can tell its not about the money but more about maintaining the gardens (which are stunning) and supporting the local community. As a result, it feels very competitively priced to alternative options nearby.

Didn’t know the market was on so great find. We parked in the car park by the market which I’m glad to say still uses real money. Lots of different stalls food produce, bric a brac, plants & lots more.

This area is stunningly beautiful with hidden gems to be found around every corner.
I came here when I was a young boy and thought it might have changed for the worse but after 40 years or so, I assure you it's still as beautiful as ever.
The coastal routes are delightful, however a little narrow and hair-raising at times.
I can't beieve they run double decker buses through the most narrowest of roads, it's somewhat uncomfortable to think that after following a single track lane with high hedges for the last 3 miles, you come across the No.*** Totnes to Salcombe double decker bus facing you around the bend, head on, with nowhere to go but in reverse!!! The only drawback but the area certainly pays its dividends in full. Will always recommend the area, may be not the narrow lanes! ha! ha! Be warned!

Not large, just a single circle defensive wall on top of a constructed not natural hill with a half outer wall and still visible a dry moat. Not a must see but as one of the first Normal strongholds con-structed to establish dominance after the 1066 invasion of England, quite significant. The North Street car park is a convenient 100 metres away although still cash only in June 2024.

Vey interesting little museum in a lovely old house. There is a beautiful little courtyard out the back with a herb garden and notices explaining what they are used for. I would imagine it would be really lovely in the summer. Volunteer staff were all lovely and welcoming, and the enthusiasm when explaining some of the exhibits to us, and giving us some interesting facts about origins of sayings was clear. Worth a visit.

Came to Totnes for a music gig in St Mary’s with a friend who found it on a live music listings site. Made an evening of it, travelling up from Plymouth by train, walking from Totnes station to a corner pub called the Barrel House then across the road to the Angel restaurant for supper before the very short stroll down to St Mary’s. It’s obviously a fine old church for all the services and ceremonies provided by the CofE but they also support independent events. It was very busy on our night, very well supported, a characteristically Totnes crowd from the appearances, demeanours and clothing (especially the knitted hats) of the patrons. I’d say it was pretty well full. The vicar was putting on everyone’s wrist tags and checking folk in and out during the performance, whether they wanted to slip off to the tricky to find lavatories or just for a fag, some fresh air etc. The church had a very convivial feel and the performances were entertaining. The main and backup performers were very different. The latter, a female, had a series of angry, angst strewn lyrics to her love songs, the main performer with his acoustic guitar was more positive, tolerable and upbeat. We didn’t regret the concert or any feature of our venture. Afterwards we went back to the Angel to finish our supper wine bottle before the downhill stroll back to the station and home.

Totnes, it’s hospitality and varied venues, especially the parish church, are all an enticing and pleasurable pastime.

I'm not a big drinker but absolutely love this place. The staff are fiendly and I love the seating area with its funky furniture and relaxed vibe. I paid a visit with my boyfriend recently. We had bought some food in the market and he couldn't believe that we would be allowed to take it in to eat. Also, he doesn't drink alcohol so was delighted that there is alcohol free beer on tap! I really enjoyed my alcoholic, non-generic bitter. As a woman, I would be very happy to visit alone as it feels very safe and welcoming.

Great tour and tasting. Very personal and knowledgeable from the cider maker. Mrs Hunt was lovely to meet. The cider tasting was very generous and a great time was had.
