Royal Armouries - Fort Nelson
#1 of 35 Sights & Landmarks in Portsmouth
Free to visit, catering facilities brilliant with lots of gluten free options, the volunteer hosts were really knowledgable and helpful, site very clean and well maintained and really interesting.
There are rifles to practice shooting, many historical armaments as well as modern ones, ramparts to walk on with the most fantastic views only to be rivalled from the top of the Spinnaker Tower.

It's a perfectly preserved iron-hulled ship of the line that helped Britannia rule the waves, and is a splendid example of the historic sites that abound in England.

Old Portsmouth
#5 of 35 Sights & Landmarks in Portsmouth
The old town area is delightful, with some eye-catching architecture, great street names and fantastic views over the Solent and out towards the Isle of Wight and the sea.
Excellent area to view ships and take in the charm of this area including the royal garrison church.
HMS M.33
#6 of 35 Sights & Landmarks in Portsmouth
I thought this the most intimate and fascinating of the vessels on view in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard - small, accessible and well curated.
We bought an all sights ticket, otherwise we may have missed this gem.

Can relax and watch world go by and see the hustle and bustle of Portsmouth harbour and can see right along coast and clear views of Isle of Wight.
A number of great walks along this historic headland with fantastic views of the Solent, Hayling Island and Portsmouth.
Portsmouth Cathedral
#8 of 35 Sights & Landmarks in Portsmouth
The building itself is both a historic landmark and a lovely place to visit (especially if you stumble upon the quiet area round the back with the benches where it is really quiet (and lovely to take photos in!).
Excellent organisation and good view of proceedings with the large screens.

This millennium promenade is just fantastic, walk for as long or as little as you want! lovely views of the sea as you go along, nice smooth pavements and plenty of seating as you get nearer to Southsea.

Little Woodham Living History Village Gosport 3.5 mi away
#1 of 2 Sights & Landmarks in Gosport
I was immersed in the sights, sounds and (only a bit) of the smells of history, with friendly villagers to entertain me and the kids.
It is only a small site but the local people, in character and costume, are happy to spend a long time talking and demonstrating about their home, jobs, food etc .
Royal Garrison Church

The main think that made our experience superb was the volunteers on site who were able to answer our questions and those of our daughters (6 & 10).

Beautiful views and a great arcade
Especially if you're in Pirate Pete's when you can have the food delivered to your table and you have a sea view.
