Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Emma STonbridge, UK1 contributionWe visited the gin bar for the second time, and really enjoyed our drinks! The atmosphere was slightly less entertaining than the first time with less people, most likely due to the bad weather. It was a shame that we weren’t served by the previous couple who bought a little more of a lively vibe to the place. But overall both visits so far have been brilliant! Will be recommending to family and friends.Written 11 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- bparkercarsYateley, UK1,769 contributionsHaving read the reviews, the grove tavern was a must, even if it meant climbing up from the high Street. It's old and small and probably the best pub in town. Frequented mostly by locals we were made very welcome and will definitely return.Written 11 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ian StapleyRainham, UK16 contributionsHi,
Accompanied by by wife and daughter we decided to visit the Halfway house pub for lunch. It was recommended by my daughter who has visited it with her boyfriend who lives locally. I was pleasantly surprised to see a great selection of local kent real ales and drinks were reasonably priced. The pub atmosphere had a good feel about it and the staff were extremely pleasant. There was a good varied menu and a daily specials board from which my wife and daughter selected the roast belly pork with crackling in a chorizo gravy with mash and veg. The pork melted in your mouth, they both enjoyed it. After a generous portion of whitebait to start with, which were delicious, I opted for the battered haddock fillet with chips, peas and homemade tartare sauce. The haddock was fantastically fresh and a good size fillet, coated in a superb crunchy light batter served with generous portions of nicely cooked chips and fresh garden peas. It was a really good fish and chip meal washed down with a great pint of beer. We actually live in Rainham, Kent so for us it's not a local pub to pop in but it was well worth going out of our way to visit. We will be definitely visiting again to try other delicious fare from the menu and maybe leave room for a dessert next time. Thank you to the landlady and the staff who made us feel very welcome.😁Written 1 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. They made sure we were comfortable and the food we ordered was delicious. Really made a change to visit somewhere so welcoming and accommodating 😀Written 4 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Gee K28 contributionsWe booked The Manor House for our work Christmas party, and it exceeded all our expectations! The package we chose included a cocktail masterclass and a festive buffet. The booking process was seamless and stress-free, thanks to their team.
Zoe, our cocktail masterclass host, was a standout. She was not only knowledgeable but also brought so much energy and fun to the session. Her enthusiasm set the perfect tone for the evening. The festive buffet was delicious, and the venue was beautifully decorated, which really added to the festive atmosphere.

Bar downstairs, loos upstairs via a central staircase with a balcony all round. Good pint of Guinness.Written 11 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- chris scobleRoyal Tunbridge Wells, UK7 contributionsThe Black horse is not so much a hidden gem but maybe undiscovered by some RTW people who may not wonder down the end of Camden Road. It’s run by the brilliant people who care for people who drink in the pub and always employ staff who are friendly local and welcoming. In recent times the pub has added a outside covered space for events. It’s really nice. Teressa will cater for any events you want and competitive prices . If your looking for a private party the Black Horse is worth a look.
All in all it a great local pub that has many different fictions.
If nothing else it’s a great local .Written 28 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are plenty of draught and bottled beers too. Set in a great location.Written 31 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Karl NBraunton, UK1,473 contributionsThe staff were brilliant and can’t be faulted for their support. Although it seemed very short staffed and very busy. We attended the disabled side access and rang the bell a few times with no answer. Eventually I had to leave my group and go inside to the bar to get someone to open the door. You can’t do this yourself as the internal corridor door can only be opened by staff!
Inside the staff helped us to get a table in the lower area which required the use of the internal lift. Once in the lower area, that was mega busy and the only area disabled people can access we got a table, but it was tight.
Food was challenging as there was loads out of stock, all the Christmas options, burgers, pizza and numerous other items were out of stock, which was challenging.
When we eventually got to pick food that was available it arrived swiftly and was good.
We ordered puddings, then a member of staff came to say the options we had ordered were unavailable. We got alternatives.
On leaving I got a member of staff to open the disabled exit for us to leave.
All in all this was a disappointing visit, only made up by a great staff experience.Written 19 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kerrie S10 contributionsEAT HERE!! We had the roast sirloin and oh my days the meat was ‘mwah’, the cauliflower cheese is to die for, such good gravy and all the veg so fresh and delicious!
Good selection of drinks, a wonderful atmosphere and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. Even as we walked from the carpark, the owner gave is a wave as he was going in.
My only complaint is that its not nearer my home but then again this little gem being closer could be dangerous! As Gordon Ramsey would say ‘such a find’. Cant wait to return.
