What travellers are saying
- Jill A13 contributionsLake Windermere was more busy local shops and can get a boat out even in December. Lot more for tourists, restaurants little coffee shop.Written 30 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rosie J1 contributionWe had an AMAZING time walking the Alpaca's with Lily! It was such a fun experience for us (we are a couple visiting the Lake District from London). It was really worth every penny.
You first get introduced to the Alpaca's, then go on a walk through the estate grounds, down to the Lake (which had incredible views) and then back up to the paddock.
We were accompanied by our guide, Lily, who was super friendly, really knowledgable and made our experience really fun. Thank you Lily!Written 4 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We knew a bit about Beatrix Potter (BP) before our visit and thought Hill Top was worth a visit, while staying in the area. So glad we did!
We pre-booked our allotted visit time - late afternoon was nice and quiet. Included parking was close by and easy.
We had a nice visit around the house and gardens. It was to see BP's home just as she left it. She definitely was ahead of her time, when it comes to conservation of the Lakes District.
A lovely gift shop and cafe on site.
Even if you don't know heaps about BP, this is worth a visit!
Allow at least one hour.Written 19 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This is an amazing walk relatively easy, even though I did nothing but moan all the way up, because I felt as though it was going to be a harder than it was, but honestly I would say that anybody could actually do it with good walking shoes.
There are some steps and some metal steps that take you down to a veranda area where everybody stands, trying to get the best shot.
Obviously, you’ve got your Instagramer’s who have got them big sticks with the phone on the end.
It really is worth a visit though because it is amazing.
There is a car park at the bottom, which is chargeable unless you have National Trust membership.
I can honestly say out of the whole long weekend this was the best .Written 8 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Gemma BLowestoft, UK158 contributionsI did the walk around the lake as well as Cat Bells. The hike to the top was good with amazing views along the way. At the summit I stopped for some food and a drink. Again, an amazing place to have your lunch. There were not too many people at the top but I would imagine in the summer time it would be very busy. The descent down was a little challenging but I had my stick so that helped. You can just do Cat Bells but I enjoyed the route I took. In the summer there are boats that go near to the start. All in all an enjoyable hike.Written 20 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- penguin1963Rhyl, UK83 contributionsa nice half day visit whilst in the town.
I am a mobility scooter user (smaller one) and some of the passageways are hard to navigate but I managed ok. When people in the front are taking photos and selfies galore a queue does form but patience is the order of the day.Written 13 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - sunrise99Yorkshire891 contributionsWe had a great day here in the Summer. We enjoyed viewing the castle and looking around the grounds. It was great to see the owners enjoying the merriment and being very hands on. It looks like they are expanding the commercial element with a newly opened weapons hall. I guess this would appeal to families and be great to host birthday party celebrations. I noticed people were camping and lots of events were available whilst we were there. We enjoyed viewing the birds of prey.
We may visit again but this venue is definitely one to take the family.Written 6 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Sitting area at the top to sit and soak it all in.Written 6 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - kgorman1999Northampton, UK197 contributionsThis was our second time visiting The Lakes Distillery, the first time only popping into the shop.
On this occasion we decided to pre book an agreeing tasting tour, which explains how the distillery started and the process of making Whisky, Vodka and Gin before tasting their three main bottles at the end. There is also the added bonus for whoever is driving, as they get a sample bottle of their chose drink from three on offer to take home and enjoy so they don’t miss out either!
Our tour guide Jack was very welcoming and knowledgeable and also had a sense of humour dropping so jokes in here and there.
Again when in the shop, staff were friendly and attentive offering their knowledge on what they feel is best and how best to serve the chosen alcohol.
Overall, we would recommend the tour if you are looking for something to do in the area.Written 31 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
