Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stumbled across this by chance, after visiting one of the galleries and seeing a picture. It is so small and perfectly placed over the water. A good photo opp!

Very informative information boards dotted around the site which helped to visualise where parts of the fort would have stood.
Fairly flat ground to walk around, although it was very wet when we went so good footwear is a must if it’s raining.
Great views surrounding the site, right next to Ambleside Waterhead so worth stopping to see.

Lovely walk out of Hawkshead in November. It's classed as moderate, in summer you could probably do it in trainers, but I'd recommend trail shoes or walking boots.

Allow 2-3 hours, and allow time for photographs.

The Queens Head pub in Hawkshead has a list of 4 local walks (loops) to take away, which I would recommend. I also recommend trying their beers, which are very well kept and friendly staff.
