Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- James PCambridge, UKThe car park is small, right at the end of the lane on the left. Don't get confused with Rydal Hall entrance on the right.
The house is interesting but the star of the show is the gardens. Explore the numerous paths, terraces, and hidden nooks, with great views. This was Wordsworth's home for many years and you can see why he was so inspired.Written 29 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Come early if you want good photos as it gets busy. There is a nice cafe/pub behind it that is nice to sit on a warm day.Written 12 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Chris USunderland, UKWhen I visited Wtay Castle they had an exhibition about Everest. The exhibition was located in several rooms of the castle and was interesting. I'd recommend visiting if it's still on. Other than the exhibition there was little to see. You can only access the ground floor and there are only a lldmall number of rooms. I didn't get the chance to see the grounds but they did look sizable. Going by the number of cyclists and walkers it seems popular. The 3 stars are due to limited access to the castle.Written 17 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Amazing views from the varied shaded garden areas which adorn the hillside above the house where Ruskin lived which is also part of the cost of your visit and well worth looking around. The cost includes returns for a whole year. The lovely cafe is a little gem too. You will not be dissapointed if you choose to visit here. Though as stated the gardens are not all on the level so are not easily accessible for those with reduced mobility.Written 24 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MonicaJackson, TNWell worth a visit to see the view of the town from the top of the hill. The church is well maintained and there are a lot of grounds you can walk around as well.Written 1 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
