Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went to try pike fishing for the first time ever, and turned up early on a Sunday morning. I was introduced to my guide for the day ( dave ), who had all the gear we required for our day on the lake, rods bait etc.
You could tell Dave knew his business straight from the off, he drove us to our first location, and within minutes had three rods spread out the boat anchored up, and had me watching the floats in what could only be called a hoping vigil.
Unfortunately the weather took a turn for the worst, it started raining.
But within an hour dave pointed out one of the floats was on the move, under the guidance of Dave a successful strike was made, and my first ever pike was was reeled in.
Dave netted and unhooked the pike, i had a few selfies with the pike, who probably weighed in at around 8-10 pound, not a monster but a great catch all the same.
Dave and i stayed out for a few more hours, but the rain was that bad that even my waterproofs gave up and water started to seep in, so being cold and wet, i gave up on the hope of a second pike,
Still it was a most enjoyable day, and dave was great company. The may of ended in a soggy drive home, but i would do it all again.

Hidden gem for sure! We have an older dog who can't walk far so this was perfect for a bit of a slow walk through the words and take in the beauty. Follow the waterfall up and takes you to a gorgeous little oasis. Can imagine great for kids in the summer.
Tea room at bottom family and dog friendly, basic but wholesome food. We sat right by the falls and was really lovely.

We lucked in with parking as the car park was closed so just be aware parking might be limited but worth going early on and trying because the area is beautiful.

The peace and tranquility here was lovely. You can understand why Beatrix Potter loved it and spent time here. You can almost imagine Jeremy Fisher sat on a lily pad!

I've been visiting the central Lake District for 50 years and, until last week, had never stumbled across this place. To say it is tucked away would be an understatement and the lack of signage in the area is the main reason I've given it 4 stars.

However, once we had arrived we were amazed to find 11 acres of tranquil gardens in the process of restoration and stacks of rare trees and shrubs from around the world. Best bit for us was the 'tree trail' that can be picked up from the car park and loops around for a mile or so through some amazing specimen trees. Amongst them are giant redwoods and a number of trees being grown as part of the International Conifer Conservation Programme. We found a great little trail guide which details the trees on the National Trust website.

Recommended for all ages - the main path is reasonably level and was comfortably navigated by our family group which included my 5 yr old grand daughter and 87 yr old mother. There is an adjacent piece of more natural woodland but the path there is quite a bit steeper.

Directions as follows: High Close Arboretum is situated between Langdale and Grasmere at the top of Red Bank and just next door to the Langdale YHA which you will find on most maps (if following SAT NAV, use: LA22 9HJ). A very tight entrance turn takes you to a small carpark just below the YHA.

A WORD OF WARNING - Red Bank is very steep so don't try this route in anything bigger than a car or small van.
