Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- Mandy MLondon, UK22 contributionsThe Beatrix Potter house was a great place to visit, it bought back all my memories of reading her books when I was a child and reading them to my children. It was a bit of a trek but well worth it all the staff were wonderful and the lady in the house gave me some wonderful stories of Beatrix, about her life in the house what wonderful knowledge told with a great sense of the lady herself.Written 5 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - skara_readingReading, UK14 contributionsNice and easy to hire bikes for us and 8-yr old. Not regular mountain bike riders but we managed the green trail, with the help of the tow rope (always take it if they offer!!). It is difficult in places as there's lots of uphill but this is referenced in all their materials and that's where the tow rope comes into its own. After a shaky start with the hills my son was loving it, and was leaving us for dust on the downhill sections! Quiet trails with not many walkers or cyclists, even on a bank holiday Mon, so felt safe to be newbie riders here. Cafe afterwards was fab. Then we did the short blue walk too, that was also a nice short warm down option!Written 27 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RazzyBthefirstMacclesfield, UK1,501 contributionsWalked from Ambleside in the sunshine and were soon admiring the incredible views. We were sat on a bench overlooking the tarn when a low flying cargo plane flew in front of us, unreal.
Plenty of families enjoying a picnic and a swim, idyllic really.
Circular walk so back along Loughrigg terrace and the caves. Just after the caves, as you walk down the hill, the stone path has been badly affected, I guess by recent storms. If you're in any way unstable, I'd avoid.
People on here marking Loughrigg Tarn down because of car parking charges, it being busy or your holiday home didn't refund you.....need to have a word with themselves.
Just a beautiful spot in the English countryside.Written 25 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Don't get confused with Rydal Hall entrance on the right.
The house is interesting but the star of the show is the gardens. Explore the numerous paths, terraces, and hidden nooks, with great views. This was Wordsworth's home for many years and you can see why he was so inspired.Written 29 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Not strenuous and if you divide to go over the style at the top right and over the files there’s a great cafe called the force!
Easy down hill walk back to Ambleside.Written 9 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I picked this one to get home from Grasmere to near Penrith on the interesting route via Ullswater.
Far harder than I could ever have imagined and a serious test of bike and rider. Starts steep immediately out of Ambleside and doesn't let up for over 2km. Some relief on the flatter approach to the end. But the brutal final slope is always in view.
Check your brakes before starting as the descent will be terrifying without strong brakes on the 15-20% sections.
The road surface is pretty good and there's not much traffic.Written 5 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - James PCambridge, UK2,788 contributionsWe walked the southern bank of the lake, nice view across the still water, on the way back from the caves. On the second day we tried to walk part of the route again to also walk around Grasmere but the path to the bridge was completely flooded.Written 29 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Downtrodden_dadCumbria, UK76 contributionsWe had a couple of hours to kill while around Ambleside so thought we would try here. The gardens are not huge but the setting is lovely and the waterfall is very nice. A map would have been useful to get the best of the walks, and although we didn’t try it there is a cafe. It’s also free (donations welcome). Can’t believe we’ve never been before.Written 8 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Intriguing to see the methods used to construct the artworks. And a good occupation to burnoffsome of that delicious cake just eaten at the coffee shop!Written 29 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ian G79 contributionsStill the best pub in Ambleside, great selection of drinks and very good bar staff.
Have been coming here for years and hopefully many more to come.Written 4 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Charlotte BBeeston, UK9 contributionsCalled on the day hoping that we could get a last minute bike hire for 2 adults and they could not have been more accommodating when we called on the mobile to enquire. They have vans set up around the area which we could walk to, specifically in Bowness in our case. They helped us set up the seat height, let us have a test and then supplied a helmet! Super easy returns and we had the most fantastic day out. From Bowness we hopped on the bike/car/pedestrian Ferry to the West side of the lake and then ended up cycling North and all the way back to the drop off. Really great day and bikes were really fun, highly recommend!Written 9 September 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
