Late booking on the Carlton, what a lovely boat , very clean and warm, Julian gave some top tips for eating out on the Ashby Canal in lovely Country pubs , first time on this canal - no locks and lovely countryside which suited the 3.5 days we had . I have hired several holiday boats over the years and this was the best one , no hidden charges , thoroughly recommended !

Fantastic 3/4 days on beautifully fitted out boats, warm despite it being February. 3 couples on 3 boats, a wonderful adventure!

    Amazing place!
Excellent security with ANPR on all entry/exit gates.
    Spacious pitches.
Superb individual showers/toilets, underfloor heating and lots of hot water.
Lovely bar/ restaurant with one side being the dog lounge - we had a very nice breakfast here one morning. You can also order in from local takeaways and use crockery/ cutlery supplied by bar - they also clear it all away as well.
    Friendly staff.
7+ lakes to fish from if that’s your thing!
Two really good dog exercise fields and lots of dog walks around the 150 acres site. Two warm dog wash areas as well.
Highly recommended and we will revisit.
We were here during Storm Ciaran so our hard standing area under our awning mat became waterlogged but it was exceptionally dreadful weather - we were on pitch 15 north site.
5* - really great attention to detail across whole site.

During an activity weekend in Leicester, kayaking here was the one myself and my eldest daughter were both most looking forward to - and it did not disappoint.

When we arrived, Sophie our instructor showed us the kayaks and gave us options of which ones we wanted.

We went in twos and, after the all-important safety demonstration, we donned our life jackets, picked up the kayaks and headed for the River Soar.

After getting into the boats and, with Sophie's helpful hints and tips, we soon got the hang of the paddles and were journeying down the river.

This, I think, was the most relaxing part of the weekend - the sound of the lapping water and taking in all the wildlife on the riverbanks.

Sophie's instruction ensured we not only stayed safe but also had a great time as she enlightened us about the things we were seeing in the surrounding area.

When we got back, we were tired but exhilarated from the trip and I would definitely recommend this activity.

Whether it is, as we did, a family trip, with friends, or even for a birthday, anniversary or special occasion - I defy anyone not to be wowed and inspired by this highly enjoyable past time.

Had a fantastic time at Barrow boating with friendly staff and plenty of boats to choose from.

The experience itself was amazing being able to get a view from on the waterway and enjoy paddling around seeing the amazing scenery with the odd friendly canal boats waving as they pass by.

    Will be revisiting again!

Greeted on arrival by absolutely lovely staff who couldn't have been more helpful, from directing us where to park, talking us through the safety and practicality checklist and giving us a lesson on how to drive 'Fumble'. They helped us through the first lock then the next 7 hours were our own. A blissful, relaxing day for 9 friends, chugging along on our little boat, including a birthday feast and happily spotting kingfishers. We'd love to return. Thoroughly recommended!

I booked this for a gift for my husband, and he in return also booked me in to try it! I was a bit wary at the thought to be honest but by the end of my first attempt around the training area I was hooked. Our instructor Chris was great, good fun but also good at explaining what we needed to do to operate the craft properly. We had about 3 hours as we booked the premium package, so we had quite a long time on the lake which was so much fun. A great novel gift idea in a lovely setting with helpful friendly staff. We will definitely return.

A big thank to all staff, for looking after us on our Normanton on Soar WI day out, a beautiful sunny day which was a bonus.

Once underway on the canal, most of the ladies opted to stay inside the cabin, about 5 of us sat outside in the sunshine and breeze - totally fabulous

We expereinced/and saw so many things along the journey, fabulous houses with riverside moorings, great scenery, the wildlife was fun, swan, ducks, drakes, herons etc, the larmas lying down in the sunshine and the wonderful countryside unknown to most of us, everyone from the houses waving as we slowly meandered along.

Going under very low bridges, and going through the locks was also a new experience to most of us - totally fascinating

We stayed at a riverside pub in Mountsorrel for lunch, then back on board for the sad trip back to loughborough

We all had the most fabulous time, thank all the very staff, they were very polite, supplied masses of information about what to see, and very professional.

Thank you all for making out away day so perfect

I was given this experience as a red letter gift by my wife for my 60th birthday. What a treat! My son and I had a great afternoon learning to drive a hovercraft. You have to be over 14 for this experience. The site was clean and tidy and well maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were given full instruction and demonstrations on how to drive the Hovercraft, before we were let loose. It was a fantastic experience and one crossed off the bucket list!

We have just had a lovely stay here at Hambleton Lakeside Lodges. Lodges are on the lakes and have swans and ducks that come up to your decking waiting to be fed, so cute. We stayed in Lodge 1. It was a beautiful 2 bedroom lodge with everything you possibly need for your stay, washer, dryer, dishwasher and amazing hot tub with robes and slippers. It is in a lovely village that is quiet and has some lovely places to eat, the Shovel Inn and the Shard Hotel. We eat in both and we’re very nice. We would definitely recommend these lodges and will be back again.

Our first experience of narrow boating, which didn’t disappoint.
It was a great area for beginners to try out exploring the grand union canal to Market Harborough, Foxton Locks and Welford to name a few hi-lights.
Abi couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. Everyone we met on our trip were really nice.
If you want a calm, relaxed and slow paced adventure holiday surrounded by lush countryside and beautiful villages and towns, then this is probably right for you.

Had an absolutely brilliant day out at 6 Hills Jetski. It is right next door to the Six Hills Golf Course nr Melton Mowbray. We had a go at Flyboarding - you have jets of water forced through the soles of your boots which allows you to levitate on or over the surface of the water - assuming you can keep your balance. The team at Six Hills were absolutely fantastic, provided all the gear and tuition. There is even a small café to get something hot to eat and drink when you have finished. I would recommend this to anyone who fancies doing something a bit different.

a group of 4 of us went on a canal cruise.... it was my first, but certainly won't be my last! The boat goes along at a leisurely 3 mph, giving you plenty of time to search for wildlife, check out beautiful scenery, or simply enjoy 'being'.
We got the catered lunch and tea, which I would HIGHLY recommend - Cathlene's Cakes is run by the co-owner, and the food is first class and plentiful. We loved her desserts as much as the craft sandwiches, all accompanied by good tea...
Peter, the captain, is a wealth of knowledge and immediately makes you feel at home, visiting an old friend, as soon as you step on board. He can point out places of interest, or let you enjoy the solitude; seating in the bow (for 2) or standing in the rear (he may even let you steer for a bit!) allows you to enjoy the boat fully. Its smaller scale was perfect for our group of 4 and ensured that we could easily navigate even the tightest turns with ease. Going through the locks was great fun and very interesting, and we enjoyed every single thing about this cruise.
Do take a 1/2 day to slow down, step back in time, and enjoy a canal cruise on the cutest boat - the Button Boat!
