    Amazing
Friendly and exceptional lesson with great instructor horses so happy and well cared for
Had a fabulous meal at their Equus restaurant, best coffee I have had in ages. Lesson was not cheap but happy to pay for the best rather than waste money on the rest…

Review of Newham Riding School: Extremely Poor Safety Standards, Lack of Concern for Riders’ Welfare, and Unresponsive Staff

I am writing this review with deep disappointment and concern following a very distressing experience at Newham Riding School on 21st August 2024. My daughter was involved in an accident during her horse riding lesson, which could have been entirely avoided had the riding school followed proper safety protocols.

During the lesson, my daughter fell off the horse when it started trotting. It was immediately evident that the fall was not just a simple accident; the saddle was not properly secured, and no safety checks had been carried out before the lesson began. It was clear that the staff, including the volunteers walking with the horses, were not fully trained. Their lack of training and attention to detail put my daughter and others at serious risk.

When my daughter fell, she landed hard and was screaming in agony, unable to feel her legs and complaining of severe back pain. It was later confirmed that she suffered a broken foot and injuries to her shoulder, leaving her in significant pain and unable to continue with her usual activities. Shockingly, the staff were more concerned about securing the saddle and ensuring the horse was safe, rather than attending to my injured daughter lying on the ground. There was an utter lack of urgency and concern for her well-being, which was truly appalling.

We had to repeatedly raise our voices to get any kind of assistance, and it was only when other parents began helping that we finally received some attention. Incredibly, there was no first aider on-site, and it took 15-20 minutes before one finally arrived. By that time, the situation had already caused my daughter significant distress and prolonged pain.

When we questioned the staff about the lack of safety checks and pointed out that this was not a normal fall, their response was completely dismissive. I was told, “Well, when you signed up for the lessons, you signed a form saying it’s not our responsibility.” This response was infuriating and insensitive, especially given the clear negligence on their part regarding safety protocols.

Since the incident, I have tried numerous times to contact Newham Riding School to request a copy of the accident form, but they have repeatedly ignored my emails and texts. Their lack of communication and accountability is appalling, especially given the severity of my daughter’s injuries. It feels like they are trying to avoid taking any responsibility for their actions, and their complete disregard for our requests adds insult to injury.

It was evident that the staff were more concerned with protecting themselves from liability rather than taking responsibility for their errors. They were running around trying to cover up their failures rather than focusing on providing the care and assistance that was needed.

Overall, I am deeply disappointed and appalled by the way Newham Riding School handled this situation. Their lack of safety checks, untrained staff, absence of immediate medical assistance, complete disregard for my daughter’s welfare, and refusal to respond to our communications make this place incredibly unsafe. I urge anyone considering lessons here to think twice, as this establishment clearly does not prioritize the safety and well-being of its riders.

We had a fantastic hack today through the common. We were a party of 4 (2 adults, 2 children aged 10 & 12) that wanted to enjoy a ride through the common. 10yr old rides a lot and the rest of us are occasional riders with the 12 yr old not haven ridden for 2 years.

The stables are easy to find and we parked right outside. The ponies were matched perfectly to all of us and the instructor Becky was great at pointing out each ponies 'quirks' nothing bad just 'that one will try and eat' She was also very good at picking up on our riding skills very quickly and we were soon cantering along the bridle tracks.

All the staff were friendly, fun and knowledgeable. We all felt safe and looked after. We borrowed hats but they had boots there too if needed. The ponies were well looked after and seemed very happy. We all commented after about how good they were at listening and were very well behaved.

A great time was had by all and I would definitely recommend this if you want a ride on the common. There is a pub next door and Wimbledon village high street is less than a five minute walk away so a perfect day out.
