- eddierocket1London, UK5 contributionsI had never heard of the Hooting Owl Distillery, it was recommended to me by a friend. My partner and myself had booked a weekend in York and I booked this as a surprise.
our Host was Mark, a very friendly and knowledgeable Distiller.
There was a small group of 8, three couples and two ladies. the banter was encouraged, the questions were interesting and the answers more so.
Do not expect a big factory, this is small but functional.
The tasting.
Mark was a great host, took us through various tasting methods and we got to try several samples. the owner appeared and it was clear this is more than just a business, banter, fun, alcohol consumption in a relaxed setting.
After the tour which I highly recommend, us three couples sat and drank and chatted some more. one ordered a Cheese Platter, it was the perfect example of how to serve a cheese plater, beautifully presented, good choice of both crackers, cheese and fruit.
Well done Hooting Owl, you made cold, bleak, miserable looking afternoon, warm hospitable, fun, educational and slightly alcoholic

Brought home the truffles we made (and decorated) over 25 of them! York has a great history with chocolate, would highly recommend. The tasting session was fun and rounded off the tour well. Our guide was knowledgeable and led the tour really well.
