Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Sanya ZLondon, UK11 contributionsSuch a great afternoon out! (It took us about an hour or two to explore). It's perfect for kids who love trains, and even impressive for those who don't. We went with a two year old who did not want to leave the model train section.
There's also a small play area for kids.
The only thing that could have made it better would be to have more than one train that you can climb aboard and explore inside.Written 14 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I liked the ‘transit’ through the ages, the eras and the various rooms. I also liked the ‘smells’ associated with some of the exhibits.Written 15 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sam C11 contributionsWhat a place! Visited York with friends and was told we must visit The Chocolate Story. We weren't really sure what to expect but it was brilliant!! Rachel C was an amazing guide! Great humour, very clear and the facts she remembered was absolutely amazing!!
Loved making our own chocolate lollies too and seeing the history of chocolate in York.
Would recommend to anyone.

- Bernard H1 contributionI went for a guided visit to see the Halifax bomber. The reason being that my uncle Flt. Sgt. Bernard Robinson unfortunately lost his life in a Halifax during a bombing raid to Stettin in 1944.
My tour guide was Derek Earp whose knowledge of the aircraft was incredible. His explanation of all its features had me so enthralled that I forgot to take photos (he allowed me a second look to do them after the tour).
I can thoroughly recommend anyone who has an interest in the Halifax, or just in aircrew life in ww2 to visit. It is well worth while.

Such rich history; I learnt so much and loved every bit of my time there! I highly recommend to anybody interested in the Georgian era - perhaps even fans of Bridgerton and Jane Austen.Written 25 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Stuart WPortsmouth, UK25 contributionsGreat outdoor family attraction.
Love visiting here for the historical reproduction areas and the railway!
On our visit list when visiting friends that live in the area.
Make sure you check out the Yorkshire Barn cafe too the food is amazing.
If you want to ride the train, make sure you visit on a Sunday or bank holiday as these are the only running days.

However I enjoyed the location in the heart of York. During the experience Van goghs painting were projected onto the walls, celings and floor as I sat on a deck chair. After we walked through some more paintings and information about Van Gogh and then did the VR exprience where we learnt more about him. Overall I enjoyed the experience and leart more about Van Gogh than i would of sat in a classroom.

It’s surprisingly refreshing not seeing the same old art aka highland cows and abstract landscapes. Really lovely staff who clearly enjoy their work and really know the artists too. An excellent Indy shop that’s worth seeking outWritten 11 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Andy DMarske by the Sea36 contributionsWent for a great run out on the bikes today and visited the Craven Collection at Stockton on the Forest near York. What a place.....if you like motorcycles and motorcycling history this is a place not to miss. Google Dick Craven and have a look at some of the videos on Youtube with him racing his Vincent.....The place is his own private collection with hundreds of motorcycles covering the last 100 years of motorcycling. The collection is only open on certain days I believe its the 1st Sunday of the month up to October and costs £7.50...worth every penny . Dick was wandering around and telling tales and talking to visitors a real friendly place.Written 3 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
