Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Elspeth R5 contributionsThe stars are for the lovely staff, who were spot on helpful in each visit/interaction. The prices of this chain are omewhat high although here was less than other Everymen (£14 eve adult). The size of screen varies and thus change the experience. This is a 1930s old Odeon, and screen 1 is large with original features. Screens 2&3 are 50 odd and 4 is just 22. I like the cinema to see things big screen and had gone for a special treat/film, so I hesitated to come here due to the tiny room and lack of 1930s in all but the original auditorium. The bar areas and stairs do keep the original art deco.
Often the quality films get relegated to little screens in favour of blockbusters
Food prices here are quite high: hot drinks and pizza are ok, but the latter is more of a bready snack slice and not a full one. Desserts and wine are £eek!!
You get sofas and cushions, but staff come in to bring the above and it's distracting to those of us who really care about film. I realised the big legroom is for waiters.
Everymans are meant to be a treat, but too much for regular cinema going, and the waitering and small screen somewhat negate the extra money paid, and I'm sorry not to see artier film choices promoted moreWritten 20 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Looks really good in a picture but doesn’t do the food genre justice. Example. The “ramen” uses egg noodles which isn’t even ramen noodles, the broth is really salty and all the components are extra salty.
Other than the food (which is VERY salty) the drink selection is excellent, and the views from their terrace is beautiful. Would recommend to come for drinks and light nibbles but go elsewhere for dinner.

- Kristen FDalmeny, UK33 contributionsStarting raining, early evening, Sunday, most attractions closing so we decided to visit this. Price was reasonable, screening was average, seat was broken, and the cinema was very smelly. I believe that it would have been better if they showed films from the 70s or 80s since the cinema doesn't do justice to films of the modern day with the resolution of the cinema's screen, especially the film we went to see, "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets." A film which is very visually pleasing and it looked wrong in 480p.Written 7 August 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - possum1967york22 contributionsI'm lucky to live a walk away from this gem on the outskirts of York. Not just for film nights (which are always interesting choices, sometimes with speakers & Q&A's afterwards, and of course a licenced bar!) but in general. The Post Office is hugely helpful (including a printing & photocopying service), there are lots of seats and tables for reading & chilling & 'getting stuff done', break-out areas for quietness, a fab cafe (instant coffee for a pound if you don't want a fancy brew) and a well-stocked library with a friendly librarian who orders books in if you can't see what you want.
There are numerous groups & activities going on (see the frequently updated timetable online or on Facebook etc), and a great little recycling hub/seed swap/ food swap hub. You can hire the big hall for parties/receptions (it looks gorgeous when decorated) and smaller rooms for meetings.
This was built as a community hub for the New Earswick residents by Hoseph Rowntree & the Quakers. You don't have to be a Quaker, nor live in New Earswick, to spend time here. Really lovely place.Written 13 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
