Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited the London dungeons before and I wanted to take my 8 year old autistic son to the York dungeons while on a city visit and visited the other places with ease. So I knew what to expect when buying tickets online which was much cheaper than walking up to the door. That’s what I thought anyway but turns out it is completely different. We entered to be greeted by a smiling and welcoming cashier who i have forgotten her name sorry! She asked if we had any questions which my son who was looking a little nervous asked a few questions which put his head at rest. We got a souvenir book for us to read going around if it got too much. We had our photos taken and went into a waiting area for more people join. My son froze when he saw the monk and had a sensory meltdown which ended up him running out of the first area. Bless him he was screaming the whole house down and we haven’t started sorry to the people taking the pictures. At the next moment I think the manager was called Shaun if I remember arrived to check if everything was ok, he came pretty quick so it sounded like it is not the first time this has happened! He asked if we wanted to go outside and I said my son has autism. Just like that he knew what to do and was talking to my son calmly but including me for reassurance. He sent a message to hold the line and like a bit of magic he stopped the attraction just for us it was really kind of him to do. This gave my son space for him to breathe. Shaun started to give out information about what the shows are with effects and history behind them and Alex started to listen and respond. He was considering what options we would like to do. Alex was given some headphones a special sticker that glowed in the dark and a fidget toy. The sticker fell off half way but the actors knew not to pick out him. Shaun also said to both of us if we ever wanted to leave to ask an actor to get him and he would escort us out. All three of us went into the waiting area until it started, he was with us and telling Alex and me what was going on. We managed to make it out with the scary witch at the end. That acting was alright but the actors were acknowledging Alex and made sure we stood in certain areas but I was more concerned about how terrified he was. Shaun was at the gift shop when it ended and asked how everyone was which was kind of him to do. Thank you to him and the team who made my son’s day after his episode. He won’t stop talking about the dungeons and he wants to go to another one to collect the books. I will give it a few years. So a personal thank you to him for taking the time out to see us before and after. A right credit to the York dungeons.

To parents with special needs children. I would not recommend this for young children. The witch and plague show is rather distressing with all the effects and might cause a sensory overload. It is very loud in places even for me. I would say teenager age for visiting the dungeons but beware for those with sensory issues. It had a couple of jump scares but nobody touches you. The team will around to answer questions about it.

What a lovely theatre. Friendly staff. Just watched The Importance of Being Earnest. What a fantastic evening. The actors were brilliant, and you felt like they were enjoying performing, with exaggerated facial expressions and mannerisms and speech. The audience
showed there appreciation. I will definitely be looking forward to my next visit.

While wandering around Museum Gardens we came out on Marygate and St Olave's Church loomed up and what a beautiful church.
Obviously very old this Medieval structure looks superb ,a great stone building with a very evocative tower, never ventured inside but was more than content to just stand back and admire the church and take a few photos, named in honour of St Olaf the patron Saint of Norway ,its easy to locate along Marygate and is most definitely well worth checking out if your in the area.
