Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The stunningly large space, available for free was just the perfect place just to wander around and see this marevellous machines. The one thing I wish is that they had more interpretors on site able to talk about the importance/interesting facts about these trains. They had a few but not a lot.

This was our first visit to York & the minster and we were blown away with it. We paid to do the tour which was £18 each but we can go in again as many times as we like till June next year so that’s really good value. It’s a beautiful building inside & out , our tour guide was really good too, the only problem we had during our tour there was a service on with a choir so some parts of the tour we couldn’t hear everything that was said but it didn’t spoil it for us & I thought the music & choir sounded so good. We also paid an extra £12 to do the tower tour , that’s a spiral staircase that’s quite narrow & gets narrower nearer the top which has 275 steps up to the tower at the top , you do go out at one point and walk across a walkway then go back inside to climb the last of the steps to reach the top of the tower , you need to be fit & healthy to do it but it’s so worth the climb to see the views of York from the top of the tower,we would definitely recommend going up there if you can.

It was worth the money, lots to see. Loved the street exhibition, was so real. Found it very informative and takes you back. The WW1 history was brilliant too.

Amazing! Like stepping back in time. The history in the cobblestone streets and the buildings is just beautiful and fascinating.
We loved stopping into the old pubs and learning the history behind them, as we enjoyed a beverage served by a friendly local.
The quaint little shops and markets were great to have a look around. Very picturesque!

You can’t visit York without visiting the historic city walls. The story behind them is fascinating. The history in York is totally amazing to me. Absolute must do.

FABULOUS DAY OUT! Wow what a place! WE LOVED IT! . Our family had the best day. The staff made us feel so welcome, they were all full of knowledge about the birds and we got to handle them which was a great experience. If I lived closer I would love to give my time as a volunteer to the family business, they all work really hard and it shows.

My father was a Canadian who trained as a radar technician and then went over with other Canadian to serve in England during WW II alongside the Brits. I knew the base he served on no longer existed but would be represented at the Air Museum so visited while on a recent trip to the UK, hoping to get a sense for his time there. I found that every squadron from that time is represented with photographs and memorabilia and was profoundly moved to discover my father's signature, along with others, on a Christmas menu from 1942. In that moment, he came alive again for me, a young man far from home at Christmas. I also found a squadron group photo and got to see a Halifax bomber, the type of plane that he would have clambered in and out of as he did his work.

Even those without a personal connection will find it a worthwhile trip I think, there is lots to see and do, many planes, a kids play area and canteen. For me, this was a wonderful opportunity and I deeply appreciate all those individuals (most of whom are volunteers) who keep this site running.

If you want history bringing to life then this is the experience. A hit on both your sight and smell to help visualise this time period.
Staff were friendly and informative from start to finish although they did start the pre-ride informative talk whilst we were still making our way from the long queue. (We’d booked).
Some interesting museum pieces at the end of the ride too, which held the attention of a range of age groups. Enjoy!

No discount for OAP's was surprising. Tickets for the house & gardens totalled £130 for four adults & one child! House is beautiful but doesn't justify the significant outlay in my opinion. The gardens and views again are very nice but a rather expensive few hours.

I’ve lived in York 30 years and to my shame (!!) have only just visited the bunker. We had a fantastic visit and I will now recommend it to all our visitors. Our guide Sean was excellent - he was enthusiastic and knowledgeable and gave us a very memorable experience - thank you!

We had a beautiful warm sunny day when we visited the gardens. They were absolutely beautiful and so well looked after. A lovely spot to sit and relax in the sun.

It was great! My son (5 years old) loved it. We went during the week so some of the attractions were closed but we knew this before hand but there was so much to keep him entertained. We were there for 5 hours, could have been longer but we needed to go. We will definitely be returning.

Bit awkward to find. Some signs a bit weird.
But good once there. Volunteer guides give talk on history of house, from way way back. Right up to today. Very knowledgeable. If you like history, you'll enjoy. Our guide was good.
You DO have to book, as there are only a set amount of tours per day.

One awkward moment. A person on the door, mentioned that all guides were volunteers and unpaid. So it would be nice f you showed just a little appreciation, at tours end. Well one other gentleman in our visitor party and myself, perhaps others, decided to tip him. He said he wasn't allowed to accept tips. We had given him a wee round of applause, at tours end. This must have been what was meant by other staff member. I told they guide that I had been misinformed and I hoped I had not caused embarrassment , or offence. He'd told me no.
So NO TIPPING, just a nice thank you and some applause.

PS. In basement they have a nice tearoom/café. With nice selection of foodstuffs and tea/coffee/waters etc. Staff were nice and also helpful.
