this place has plenty of trains, inside, they are all nicely looked after, the price of entry is free, and its a smashing place to explore

Overall fairly good . Falls down on a few points . Staff a bit disinterested. Also marketing message is a bit confusing as in there is no castle . The recreation of a Victorian street is superb .

Love the narrow streets, old buildings and small shops that make up Shambles. A fantastic step back to the past, mixed with more recent events.

Gina was absolutely brilliant. She was knowledge, entertaining and kept everyone's attention. She was extremely kind to my mum who had limited mobility. Gina is real asset to the Chocolate Factory Attraction. Thank you Gina for making the experience so enjoyable. Pamela Davidson.

A great family day out, great value for money considering all it has to offer. We have a 4 year old and a 1 year old and both loved it.
Big shout out for Dan on the Tractor ride, very entertaining and funny.

We walked the wall independently and were not part of a walking tour.

It is a nice walk, and it's great to see York from a different point. There are some beautiful views of York during the walk on the walls. I'd recommend starting the walk early in the morning so there are fewer people walking as some parts of the walls are narrow.

If I'm back in York again, I would like to walk the walls again. But this time, I'd like to do it part of a walking tour to hear the historic information.

Firstly, prebook, or you probably won’t get in. There is a queue for on the day admissions, but it can be long and during summer hols is an unlikely guarantee of access.

Secondly, the ride and animatronics are excellent, and the smells are intoxicating! A great attraction.

However, as the museum is so busy, it is difficult to see and understand the rest of the exhibits, due in part to a cramped layout and lots of people pushing past. Probably not an issue on a quiet day, but definitely a hindrance on a busy day.

Worth a visit, but a bit expensive.

I attended the Summer Solstice evening at Castle Howard last week. My partner and I arrived and received a very warm welcome from the staff in the courtyard. We then wandered down to the lawns and had an arrival drink. The views of the grounds in that spot are stunning!

We were then taken on a tractor trailer tour of the estate and learned about their biodiversity. It was so interesting! And all whilst the sun was setting! The highlight for me was seeing two deers running around.

After the tour we were led through the walled garden (peacocks showing off their feathers for us along the way!). We arrived into a private section and immediately given delicious canapes! Two long tables had been set up and beautifully decorated with flowers and plants from the gardens.

There was a huge fire pit/BBQ covered in king prawns and beef, and a lamb being barbequed too! Everything smelled AMAZING. We grabbed a glass of wine and headed to the tables. They were filled with delicious Yorkshire charcuterie, huge prawns from the BBQ and so many delicious side dishes, most of which were grown right there in the walled garden!

The staff were very attentive, constantly bringing even more food out for us. And then there was dessert, pineapples were cooked over the coals and served with meringue and muscovado sauce, so delicious I had seconds!

It was a truly special evening and had been clearly well planned and organised. It was the best food I've eaten this year and great to learn more about the grounds and the wildlife that inhabits it too.

I hope Castle Howard host many more evenings like this!

We received free tickets from the nearby Burns Hall hotel for York birds of prey . The complex is only small but it was obvious as soon as we entered how dedicated and hard working all the volunteers were. There are two flying demonstrations most days, these were fantastic and everyone was able to learn a great deal and also hold the birds under supervision with a gloved hand. It was amazing! After lunch we went around looking at all the birds settled in their cages, they appeared healthy, happy and cared for. It was a sunny day and many seemed to be enjoying the sunshine. The owner takes a selection of different birds to various educational establishments attempting to educate and therefore encourage people to respect the magnificent wildlife we are so fortunate to have.

I actually loved this park. I was very sceptical when I arrived, it wasn't the easiest place to find, but my Grandkids loved it. The rides were all very good, very little wait times. The indoor play area was great, even the food was good, for this type of place. My grand kids also really loved the animal petting area, I couldn't get them out of it. They also loved the bike/scooter area, which is set out like a small town, we spent hours in there.

We definitely will come back soon. I have already recommended this place to some other friends who are planning a visit.

I highly recommended a visit with the kids.

We had a beautiful warm sunny day when we visited the gardens. They were absolutely beautiful and so well looked after. A lovely spot to sit and relax in the sun.

Fun walk around to explore, something for the kids to lookout for and break up the exploration. Enjoyed the map reading… Cats

My husband and I took our 2 kids (7 & 4) to Piglets and thought it was fantastic. There are so many different activities for the kids. We rented a beach hut for the day (£15) and it was worth it - it allowed us to drop off our bags etc and take part in the activities. It was also a great place for the adults to have a seat and a coffee while the kids played in the sand. Everything is really well set out, with a Dino Dig and gem mining area too for added fun. The crazy golf was great and we struggled to get our 4 year old off the go karts! The animal petting, walking around the animal enclosures and the fairy trail were all great.

The rating would have been 5 but unfortunately the food experience let us down. We stood in a queue at the pizza parlour with 2 hot and hangry children for 25+ minutes to be told that there were no jacket potatoes (at 12:40pm) and various other items weren't available from the menu, with no prior indication. I'd like to point out that the queue wasn't exactly huge but the set-up meant that the service was INCREDIBLY slow, with one person taking orders and making coffees etc and another person running back and forth to get the hot food orders, presumably from a kitchen elsewhere. We subsequently decided to go around to the Beach Cafe instead to get sandwiches, of which there was a poor choice of flavours and nothing particularly kid-friendly (the fridge was quiet empty so most of the kid-friendly ones had probably gone already). The service at the Beach Cafe was also VERY slow, with it taking almost 10 minutes for a family to be served a couple of ice creams. We visited pre English school holidays so I can only hope that during peak times they're better organised with faster moving staff.

My only other suggestion would be to have tractor ride times displayed as we went to queue for a ride after 3pm and only found out the rides had finished for the day when another kind parent told us.

Overall it was a great day and we will definitely return, but with a picnic next time!

So much better now that they have the viewing platform, and the work has been done very sympathetically. Still have the long climb up the stairs outside first though.
