What travellers are saying
- BorntobakeDerby, UK65 contributionsAbsolutely great we thoroughly enjoyed the stories told by our guide. A very informative tour with time to look at the caves. Tour took around an hour. Great value. Need to wear sensible footwear as there ground is uneven and there are quite a few steps. Great for all ages. We all loved it.Written 15 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- wendiRotherham, UK136 contributionsAmazing looking house with taxidermy being the best attraction for me. The animals and display are superb. The grounds are plentiful with plenty of walking and cafe and shops. We paid 5 pounds to park the car. Had a lovely day.Written 25 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- BohoSassyChicRutland, UK46 contributionsFirstly I would just like to say how helpful all of the staff were here, especially Hannah Rose. I booked the wrong month, February instead of March, for our weekend trip away and Hannah rectified this for me immediately, thank you 🙏
We spent about 3 hours here on the Saturday afternoon and still didn’t get through it all, so the staff gave us tickets to re-enter on the Sunday to complete our visit…… Again, thank you 🙏
There is so much to see and read, and the re-enactments are a must! The person who re-enacted the courtroom mock trial and public execution was brilliant, he really held your attention and interest.
A very thought provoking time spent here, I would highly recommend visiting if you’re in Nottingham.Written 23 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The exhibition areas were good and interactive, well designed. The art gallery area was also well designed, and there's some fantastic pieces. The grounds are well maintained and there's a play-area for kids. I covered the whole lot in around 3 hours. There's 2 cafes on-site, and the incredible pub just round the corner. Luckily it was great weather when I went which helped as the castle is on a hill-top with some uneven outside flooring. Overall I had a great visit, well worth it!Written 13 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- BohoSassyChicRutland, UK46 contributionsA small museum packed with loads of fascinating history, spine chilling tales and real life exhibits….. Not for the faint hearted! - Frances M4 contributionsAlthough the site is small, I spent almost 3 hours here and still didn't see everything.
3 cottages show differences between the lives and living conditions of different people working in this cottage industry. You can open drawers and cupboards to get further insights from their contents.
It was fun using the circular machines and making part of a stocking, which I was given to take home, and chatting with the very interesting and informative volunteer in this building.
The toilets (the historical ones, not the visitor toilets!) were a stark reminder of how basic - and pongy! - life was.
A fascinating hour or so, chatting to Colin, a very knowledgeable and informative volunteer, in the machine shop or whatever it's called, brought to the fore the terrible working conditions and exploitation of the poor in those days, but best of all was his explanation of the way the knitting frames work - which is complicated and ingenious. How amazing the mind of someone who can invent that!
Colin also demonstrated a working machine.
The coffee shop was also great. Good service and delicious cake and coffee.
I can't wait to go back and see the bits I didn't have time for.
I highly recommend this fascinating little museum - be sure to talk to the volunteers and staff and ask questions!Written 17 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. On arrival, I thought we'd be there an hour but ended up spending three hours there!Written 10 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Richard C6 contributionsNice theatre, with average choice of productions, I went to the concert hall too, interesting venue great for concerts but soulless for theatre shows . Good selection of music programme though. - Ian LShotts, UK36 contributionsBrilliant t arena and home to the Nottingham Panthers ice hockey club. Very friendly staff, clean throughout and has excellent security measures when entering so everyone can feel safe. Great atmosphere and provides a family friendly night of ice hockey. Plenty of choice when it comes to food and drink which (for the type of venue) is well priced. If it’s your first visit to see the Panthers play look out for their friendly mascot Paws. I look forward to the trips here when they take on the Glasgow Clan IHC.Written 8 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - The Royal RamblerUnited Kingdom120 contributionsWe wanted a bit of a walk and to get out of the centre, and Green's Windmill was just the ticket!
A kind volunteer welcomed us and we were surprised to find out that entry was free, and we could go up the windmill! It was interesting to see and learn how flour is made at the windmill. There is also a small community garden at the back which has lovely views.
The windmill does look a bit sad without its sails, but hopefully the team can raise enough money to get them reinstalled.Written 19 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - The Codnor TravellerCodnor, UK243 contributionsI'm a Nottingham Forest fan of nearly 40 years and so my review of The City Ground may not be the most balanced you are ever going to read.
I live the place with a passion, as I have watched hundreds of games, with all the associated passion and drama, played out on that hallowed turf. I've also watched a load of dross on it too.
As much as I love the place, I am not blind to some of the issues, albeit minor ones, that exist at the true home of football.
One of these is the concourses, none of which are that wide, causing a huge cramped mess at half time when everyone pours into them for beer, pies and toilet visits. You literally cannot move in places. The toilets are somewhat antiquated, too. In addition, the whole place looks in need of a lick of paint. Much had been spent on doing up the media and corporate facilities (in light of Forest's recent Premier League status) but the general finish of the everyman stands is somewhat dated and in need of upkeep.
Basically it is a 20th Century stadium in the 21st Century and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. In fact I prefer it this way. The stadium retains character and soul, unlike the identikit bowls so fancied by other Premier League/Championship clubs. I believe that is what gives The City Ground its unique feel and is one of the reasons so many away fans spoke so highly of it last season.
The ground has four stands: The Main Stand (now called The Peter Taylor Stand), The Bridgford Stand, The Brian Cough Stand and The Trent End. The latter was rebuilt back in about 1994 (again, when Forest got back into The Premier League) and unfortunately was built in such a way as to make the acoustics absolutely dismal. Unless you are sat in The Trent End (which I try not to be, as I don't like sitting behind goals) then you wouldn't know rhey made a sound. The noise is just lost in the shoddy acoustics of the design. Ironically, the lousedt stand is frequently The Peter Taylor Stand, which is by far and away the smallest stand.
Indeed, The Peter Taylor Stand is due development, but this work keeps getting pushed back and back due to some red tape/building regulations or something. It is in need of work - it bears all the hallmarks of the 1970s and, whilst this was a great time for Forest, it wasn't the pinnacle of stadium design and so The Peter Taylor Stand desperately needs bringing up to speed with the rest of the ground. It will also allow Forest to expand upon their 30,000 (approx) capacity and capitalise on the fact that so many young new fans want to attend matches.
I would be devastated if Forest ever left this hallowed place. I love it.
Incidentally, and for the record, my visit was to watch Forest labour to a 2-2 draw with Blackpool in the FA Cup 3rd Round. It was tosh.
I'll still be back though...Written 7 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
