Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very quick and over before you know it but good fun. The lights are very cool and the gold balls glow Courses are a bit short but inventive

My number 1 favourite place in the whole of Oxford by a long way. Incredible beer, excellent prices, authentic quirk and most importantly smiling staff that are a pleasure to be around.

They hold events of every shape and size from Wrestling to Morris Men. It's a great hang out spot that's somehow cosy yet has loads of space.

Don't get me wrong, it can get a bit chilly in the winter, and the parking is a little hazy, but you'll soon forget that.

This place may be single handily bringing the community back to Oxford. So stop paying for overpriced pints in pubs that all look the same and have nothing on.

Go experience a friendly little slice of home.

Really good quality cocktails at a very reasonable price. Staff are very knowledgeable about their art, offering advice and able to mix anything you want! Friendly atmosphere can’t fault at all. Will definitely be back!

Love the vibe with the live pianists. Booked for 20 of my friends for my birthday and it was excellent! Only downside is they let my friends buy drinks a few minutes before it closed (an hour earlier than it said on the door/website) and then kicked us out

Lovely, welcoming village pub. Great choice food at reasonable prices. Relaxed and very family friendly. The steak and kidney pie which has been made for 40 years to the same recipe is awesome. Highly recommended.

Booked as part of a Tastecard deal and although it was a very quiet Sunday lunchtime the service and food was good. The Tastecard discount also helped our enjoyment I suppose but we would return

Oxford's oldest pub est. 1242 with a lovely outdoor seating area. A Fuller's pub with a great selection of drinks.
Didn't eat here so can't comment on the food.
Hidden down Blue Boar Street, just off of Aldgate.

Really enjoyed the entire experience! It grew so much since the catweazle events I remember in Northgate hall roughly 20 years ago! Matt offers
the Same Wonderful fun loving friendly quality open stage event with a delightful artistic twist and a loving attentive audience ! So many wide opened curious eyes and ears it was delightful! Great stuff to express yourself safely within the local community! Handy to get feedback too and test new material on willing punters! Looking forward to the next evening I am available to attend there! Thank you great team!!:)

We had an amazing time at Angels for some cocktail making! Joe was so friendly and knowledgable and we had so much fun. We went as 2 couples and it was so nice to be able to have a class with just 4 of us! So much better than going to a chain. We would 100% recommend the experience and hope to be coming back soon! Thank you so much to Joe for the fantastic class.

Came in for quick drink to escape the rain, had coffee and beer and then decided we’d have lunch. I overheard the landlady and a customer talking about a Bunny Chow, so curiousity got the better of me so ordered, well it’s the best lunch Panini iv had . What is it? Chicken curry inside a large panini type bread, with the lovely roast potatoes of which I gave a couple away, it was a very tasty and filling lunch. Hubby had his favourite Fish&Chips said it was OK. Nice pint good food and nice chat with landlady and staff what a great way to spend a couple hours sheltering from the rain. Oh and some Morse and Lewis photos too.

Visited this cocktail bar with friends this evening, cocktails were averaging £9 , the menu did not specify that a service charge would be applied, each round of drinks were charged at the table with card payment directly payable and no receipt! I don’t mind paying a service charge, however I would have appreciated being informed before being automatically charged. Having spent in excess of £80 on cocktails I enquired whether the Varsity had a happy hour, the waitress said that they did but we needed to have requested the happy hour deal, really bizarre since it wasn’t advertised on the menu that a happy hour existed!!!!
I feel that this was grossly unfair and feel somewhat cheated, when I pointed this out to a member of staff we were given a free cocktail and another member of staff agreed that the menu should include the service charge and should advertise the happy hour deal, perhaps the management should take relevant action to rectify this omission.

Came here for a 60th Birthday Celebration, was great fun and food was amazing. We did the cocktail making class which we used the main bar. we had pizzas and food to share after which was brilliant. The only issue I would say is the wait at the bar for drinks was a bit of a joke, queued for 20 minutes to get served and bar staff were incredibly slow by the time I was served I had sobered up.

The cocktail class and food were exceptionally good though.

A really nice, community-run, proper local pub. I live a few miles away, on the other side of Oxford, but if I lived locally this would most definitely be my ‘Local’.

This place is good for cheap drinks and a bit of fun. It is big inside and plenty of seating. It also has a good area outside. I would recommend if you want a place to drink with friends and a bit of a lively chin wag.

Good music and excellent drinks. I was at the bar for a birthday, and I really liked the atmosphere and especially the quality of the drinks. It's worth knowing. Tip the caipirinha is the best I've ever taken outside Brazil.
