Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- permiaIreland66,882 contributionsOne person we asked regarding the name said a bridge was built on a swampy and flood prone area and that it was a folly to proceed. However there seems to be no consensus.
All that aside it is a most scenic area. A grand eatery with outdoor seating is on one side. Pleasure boats depart from here to journey along the Thames; a ticket booth is at the bridge.
Across stands the distinctive Bacon’s Tower adjoining Caudwell’s Castle.
In the distant past the river was forded so that cattle could cross, thus the origin of the city’s name.Written 11 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. In vibrant blue it is a local landmark.
Interesting to see that it has the lowest headroom of any bridge on the navigable Thames. There are suggestions that the bridge should be raised to facilitate increasing enjoyment of river and canal navigation, but this is nowhere near agreed.Written 7 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
