Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Tw0_JaysSwansea43 contributionsA totally immersive experience that allows you to see the world of Jane Austin and Bridgerton. We enjoyed the stories of Christmas throughout the house and learning about all the traditions. Highly recommend.Written 30 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Bonnie Y22 contributionsI entered the Holburne having this attitude of I can't imagine seeing anything unusual or that I hadn't seen before, but how wrong I was. There were two temporary special exhibits.
The first, Neon Dreams by Chila Kumari Singh Burman, are intricate neon light installations that have the wow factor when you see them. Specifically, I entered a room of traditional period paintings and didn't expect to see a large neon tiger in the middle of it.
Uncanny Visions: Paula Rego and Francisco de Goya was tremendously different and disturbing yet the correlation between Goya's obsession with the bizarre was captured by Rego and she expounded upon it with her own art, art I definitely would not want in my home but can admire in a museum.
The imaginations of these two artists astounded me.
The Holburne collection itself is impressive and a visit to the museum was a valuable couple of hours. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. The cafe is pleasant too, good latte.Written 12 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Beth NAmersham, United Kingdom115 contributionsLovely small museum with lots to see - amazingly old and beautiful ceramics, quaint netsuke, history of kimonos, a bit about dragons ( European vs Asian)Written 19 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Reslysten54Vienna, VA2,700 contributionsThis museum offers a compact overview of Bath's architectural history. It nicely integrates several video films, maps, and a huge 3D model of the city to make its presentation attractive. Signage is succinct and easily readable.
The museum is keen to get feedback to this project under work. My simple reflections are that it would be interesting to extend the timeline. Little is said about city architecture after WWII. For non-UK residents it would also be helpful to provide some more context. Not all foreigners will immediately associate the "Victorian era" with 1837-1901, and so forth. Make sure to include explanations of technical terms for the non-specialists, if your ambition is to reach them.Written 3 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. In the latter are imaginative and intriguing works. Reading Minotaur V by Beth Carter shows a seated mythical minotaur focussed on reading a small book. Nathan Ford’s Flock X depicts a pastel impressionistic flock of sheep, ephemeral like.
Jennifer McRae has a couple of showings, including Tracing the Female Line and Enigma.Written 29 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The gallery features temporary exhibitions details of which are available on their web site.
Free entry to all visitors as part of the University’s community links.
There is pay as you go car park near the Edge (£1.00 per hour, free at weekends) but this can get very busy during term time as it is shared with students studying at the University. Full details of parking are given in the ‘Visit’ section of their website.
There is an open-plan café that does light lunches immediately adjacent to the gallery – expect lots of students!
At the time of writing, the exhibition was ‘Mariner: A painted ship upon a painted ocean’ based around responses to the classic poem ‘The rime of the Ancient Mariner’. Some fascinating exhibits and some totally incomprehensible ones to a mere mortal like me! A handout is available that gives the names of artists and titles of each of the 14 pieces on display but I felt could have done with a little more on the artists’ interpretations.Written 12 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
