Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- SarahOSouthSouthampton, UK367 contributionsBest to book online, but out of peak season you can pay at the door. We have been several times so chose not to use the headsets, and it was lovely wandering around. Lots of info around, plenty of seating and helpful staff. There are a lot of steps but there is a lift route. Such a fabulous Roman site.Written 20 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JakeCoxCardiff, UK152 contributionsI'm never one to miss an opportunity to visit a cathedral or abbey when on my travels (and thanks to or guide Paolo I now know the difference between these two kinds of building 🙂).
Yet another wonderful piece of beautiful architecture and the history on show here is incredible. If you have a chance to take the free tour with a guide I highly recommend it as you will learn things you never would without. If not though, just enjoy the stunning surroundings as you wander around.Written 24 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Starts with a talk (don't miss the dolls house off the waiting room) and then a wander through the exhibition. Opportunity to dress up and try writing with a quill.Written 18 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Stephen H2 contributionsA wonderful insight into a small part of the history of Bath often overlooked in some of the guidebooks. Our guide was truly knowledgeable about the history of this unusual building leading up to and including the time it became a Freemasons hall.Written 20 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Bonnie Y22 contributionsI entered the Holburne having this attitude of I can't imagine seeing anything unusual or that I hadn't seen before, but how wrong I was. There were two temporary special exhibits.
The first, Neon Dreams by Chila Kumari Singh Burman, are intricate neon light installations that have the wow factor when you see them. Specifically, I entered a room of traditional period paintings and didn't expect to see a large neon tiger in the middle of it.
Uncanny Visions: Paula Rego and Francisco de Goya was tremendously different and disturbing yet the correlation between Goya's obsession with the bizarre was captured by Rego and she expounded upon it with her own art, art I definitely would not want in my home but can admire in a museum.
The imaginations of these two artists astounded me.
The Holburne collection itself is impressive and a visit to the museum was a valuable couple of hours. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. The cafe is pleasant too, good latte.Written 12 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I say no more as I would hate to spoil it ;0)
Amazing cast, all in on the jokes & what a treat to see ballet incorporated!
We just love to see the cast laughing on stage, we literally cried laughing with them.
Now, here’s my warning.. some jokes are not for the faint hearted… but they honestly go over the kids heads. So, relax and just remember it’s panto.
Jon Monie and Nick Wilton you did it again… and this time even better!Written 3 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The cafe serves American-themed food which is tasty, but unfortunately not great value for money. Portion sizes are on the small side – for example, the salad that comes with a panini is barely a few scraps of iceberg lettuce and doesn’t even cover the plate. A lovely spot overall, but the food offering could be better.Written 22 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AnnieTidworth, UK2,013 contributionsMy partner booked this as a birthday treat for me. We had a lovely couple of hours in the spa, we enjoyed the rooftop pool watching the sunset was lovely. We visited the sauna, steam rooms, ice room & celestial room. Well organised not too busy, lots of lockers and they have a mobile free environment, your mobile is locked into a pouch which I liked. The included shared platter, soup & a drink afterwards was very nice and all staff were friendly. A robe & towel were included, although my robe the belt loops were broken & the white was off white. The sauna felt as if it could do with some maintenance, the benches mainly. Overall the day was good value and we had a lovely time. - WinnieVero Beach, FL736 contributionsVery well put together with an outstanding collection of fashion including men, women and children along with accessories. You have audio guides which was quite helpful. Located in the Assembly Rooms also worth a look. - Alison CNewcastle upon Tyne, UK50 contributionsA charming little museum with a lot of fascinating information.
Over three floors, the museum and its helpfully and knowledgeable staff tell the story of musician Herschel and his family as they study astronomy and design and build the equipment to allow them to do this.

But i couldnt see any world-famous taste though. Still deserves to have a look due to pretty old building they serve.Written 22 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tasha KPontefract, UK126 contributionsI visited the Assembly Rooms for a pre-booked tour on 6th August and was transported back to the Georgian social scene. The lady at the front desk was so welcoming and friendly.
Our tour guide (Hadley I believe?) was fabulous! He gave so many details about each room to set the scene of what a night out at the Assembly rooms would've been like for different people attending. He spoke so enthusiastically, especially about the stunning chandeliers- which were my favourite part too.
The only downside for me was having the Lego exhibition displays in some of the rooms. The tearoom in particular lost a sense of grandeur having display boards in there but I totally appreciate the National Trust making use of all the rooms and encouraging a variety visitors to the building.
The Assembly Rooms close for refurbishment at the end of the year to be reopened in 2026 with new interactive experiences. These sound brilliant so I hope to come back and visit again to fully immerse myself then.

- EmmabalBath, UK10 contributionsI m a volunteer at the house on Sundays but visit the house at other times to participate in the extensive program of events that are on offer throughout the year. Fairfield house is a wonderful place to meet new people, share stories and learn. It really means a lot to the whole community of Bath and beyond.Written 19 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mrs JennerMilton Keynes, UK50 contributionsRealistically people spend a majority of their time at work so seeing old workplace practices certainly is of historical significance. It's a very good collection and some of the machinery can still be turned on! Can't believe they actually used that many tools.Written 21 October 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
