Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Daniel WarmanHastings, UK521 contributionsWe’d heard good reviews about the Roman Baths in Bath, so we decided it was high time to visit. Armed with our pre-booked tickets and an early morning plan, we managed to dodge the hordes of tourists.
Upon entering, it felt like we’d stepped right into ancient Rome, minus the toga-wearing citizens. To our delight, there was far more to explore than we’d anticipated. Who knew baths could be so captivating? The audio guides were our trusty companions, regaling us with stories and facts far beyond what any toga-clad guide could muster.
The staff were as friendly as they were informative, adding a lovely touch of modern hospitality to our historical escapade. Every corner of the site had something interesting to offer, and we soaked up (pun intended) every bit of it.
In short, our visit was a splash of historical fun, and we left feeling like honorary Romans. If you find yourself passing through Bath, we highly recommend this unique experience. Just be sure to allocate a good two to three hours time tends to slip away when you’re having a splendid time in the first century.Written 16 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - HawaiiNut02760North Attleboro, MA564 contributionsBeautiful landscaped area with one of only 4 Palladian bridges in the world. The gardens are a nice respite and change from the other attractions in Bath. We took the bus there from central Bath, which was quite easy, quick, and cheap. As it was a Monday, it was not busy at all and essentially, we had the whole place to ourselves. Lots of opportunities to take pictures and enjoy the old Allen Estate.Written 4 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - exlozzae6 contributionsOur guide was very informative, he showed us around the old theatre which is now a masonic lodge. Full of history, so even if you are not a freemason the building has loads of history itself.Written 16 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mum of a cheeky one9 contributionsAbsolutely loved the interaction with the audience this year ‘balls everywhere’ .. I say no more as I would hate to spoil it ;0)
Amazing cast, all in on the jokes & what a treat to see ballet incorporated!
We just love to see the cast laughing on stage, we literally cried laughing with them.
Now, here’s my warning.. some jokes are not for the faint hearted… but they honestly go over the kids heads. So, relax and just remember it’s panto.
Jon Monie and Nick Wilton you did it again… and this time even better!Written 3 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Really brought the place to life - especially the ladies in the 'Tavern' and in the incredibly ornate New Orleans bedroom. If you're there at 1pm there's a choir under the massive Christmas tree and 2pm there's a group talk in the Tavern but we'd already spent about 20 mins with each volunteer which was such a privilege. Delicious ginger loaf in the café afterwards. In good weather they'd be AMAZING views from the café terrace and in the grounds. Can't wait to go back with our teens. Didn't even get a chance to see the Folk art. Our teens will LOVE it all. - IssyAuckland, New Zealand7 contributionsMake sure you know where you are going - a littledifficult to find. And do not expect an actual castle. - apophisguardStoke-on-Trent, UK2,312 contributionsI need to address a few issues made by other reviewers, but first my review.
It's a lovely ruin of a castle, most in the UK are thanks to the ravages of time and war, so to expect the castle to be complete is quite naive. If you arrive by car, you will pass through he castle grounds to the car park and park on the far side. Most of the site is essentially the remains of foundations and walls, there are some towers which regrettably are in ruin. However, the chapel and the crypt are complete and have some lovely medieval wall art paintings still quite visible. There is also a superb display in one of the out buildings giving a lot of detail into the castles history. The day of our visit was a children's activity day, this involved trying on armour, a display of medieval weaponry and clothing and a have-a-go archery range. Due to being the first to visit that day, we avoided the screaming darlings and had a go of the armour and archery before any kids arrived.
Staff - Excellent! Very friendly and welcoming and we had a really good talk with two of the volunteers by the displays. I've always found English Heritage volunteers to be considerable more friendly than their NT counterparts.
Worth a visit? Yes, if passing. It doesn't warrant a special long distance trip, but as we were passing on our way home - we popped in for a pit stop.
Now to address a few points raised by other reviewers.
1) There's nothing to see? Yes, it's a ruin - I guess visitors who say this were expecting Warwick castle style entertainment. Not here, what you get is a look into our country's past, and some EDUCATION - not an American style theme park.
2) It's not wheelchair accessible! It's a ruined castle, I don't think wheelchair accessibility was at the forefront of the castle designers thoughts. As sympathetic as I am to your plight, putting in ramps etc would destroy the look and ambiance of the site fr the sake of a very tiny minority of visitors. Do some research before visiting is the key! If it doesn't look accessible, don't go.Written 26 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
