    Birthday celebration for 12 guests

Booking a table for our party was simply a telephone call and a small deposit of £5.00 per person to secure the reservation. We were requested that guests could view the extensive menu online and once everyone had made their choice it could be telephoned prior to the evening.

A few guests arrived early to place a few decorations on the tables, balloons and confetti. The tables (two in total were side by side), we appreciate this is to enable the waiting staff to safely deliver hot food to guests but would have preferred the tables being connected to make it easier for everyone to chat more freely. A small niggle and it didn’t spoil the evening as guests freely moved from table to table to socialise.

The restaurant appeared busy and there was a real friendly buzz amongst everyone who were enjoying their meals. Once all our party had arrived we were greeted by a waiter who took our order of drinks promptly. These were bought to the table quickly and with a smile by another member of the waiting staff.

There was an appropriate time between receiving our beverages and the food serve. Due to our party not seeing one another as often as we would like, there was ample time for everyone to say ‘hello’ and for the birthday guest to receive cards and gifts.

Meals were presented really well and the proportions of food were generous. The waiting staff were friendly and efficient. Meals consisted of T-bone steak, lasagna, burgers, steak and ale pie, fish and chips, etc. With so many different choices, everything was hot, tasty and great value for money. Compliments to the chefs!

This traditional country pub/restaurant in our opinion is excellent. We believe the good management, great cooks and friendly and hardworking writing staff are a winning combination.

On behalf of our special birthday guest and everyone in our party, sincere thanks for making the celebration a real treat.

    Highly recommended!

We called for a Sunday lunch at short notice and we’re a little dubious to be told you’re welcome to come now if you wish. Our reservations of the place were certainly not necessary and I have to add, that the food and its presentation was one of the very best we have ever had. This is as near to Michelin in presentation and quality that you are liable to witness that has not been assessed for the prestigious award. It holds all three P’s from us as top marks, Presentation, Portion and Price. The staff, although very young are excellent and wear something rarely seen in the service industry ……… a smile. This place deserves to be full to the seems. If you haven’t been …… book yourselves in ………. The only disappoint you may experience is the parking.

If you like traditional looking pubs with a smart decor, interesting brewery artefacts, fabulous ales, a decent music playlist and friendly service, I can’t imagine you could find better than Ye Old Rose and Crown.

    Fabulous looking pub.

I've been in to Slaters several times in the last few weeks, I've found the staff to be very friendly and efficient, the range of drinks is excellent including a variety of coffee. The atmosphere in this wine bar is very welcoming. We will happily call in every time we are in town.

Happening on this pub for a quick festive pint in response to our nearby haunt which had most of its handpumps 'off'!!! And what a revelation. I remembered having visited several years before but I'd quite forgotten what a great little pub this is. Traditional, eclectic décor, homely surroundings, friendly staff, rugby on the tellie and some great ale. They had Sharps Atlantic on draught (I've supped loads of Doombar in the past but never Atlantic) and what a great pint. We spent a very entertaining hour downing a couple of pints and it was with a regretful step that we departed to go get our Chinese - recommended and we will be back

Hogarths is a modern pub in the centre of town. The decor is all wood panelling, club chairs and faux leather and despite the latter showing consider wear and tear, the overall look is nice.

Although the pub is of the large barn variety the layout is designed in such way that there are effectively various separate corner areas, which gives it a bit of cosiness. Well that’s the theory anyway but the fact that every area of the pub had a sports telly and a speaker bashing out music kinda boshed the cosy concept.

It is what it is however and makes no pretence about it. This is a sports and music bar, and we enjoyed our short visit.

Great little place with a very good selection. Plenty of spirts, cans, bottles and drafts. 2 hand pulls ranging from a light and a dark. Nice chilled out vibes, light music playing in background so very easy to hold a conversation. 100% worth a try! You wont be disappointed.

The Bear is a popular pub in the centre of town. From a furnishings point of view it is probably due a refurb and it certainly comes across as an old fashioned kind of place, a bit like a run down working man’s club,

They do however have the modern necessities of sports tv and constant music which goes some way to explain its popularity. To be fair, other reasons are probably decent beers and good service.

And on a side note, with blokes playing darts and pool as well as watching football it came across very much as a blokes pub, although that might just have been on this particular evening.

    It was alright.

This is only somewhere people go once they are wasted, and a lot of older people go here instead of Couture. Drinks are well cheap though, and its good if you are with the right people

Went in here on a rainy and windy evening to be greeted by a really friendly lady behind the bar. A quiet night with a few locals but was made very welcome.
Great selection of beer and really well kept.
Really enjoyed my evening in there especially by the log burner
    A proper pub!!!!!
