Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- Dina GuerreiroPorto, Portugal240 contributionsIf you ever go to Birmingham, the library is a must see. It's as beautiful as huge. I just don't give it more points because the secret garden wasn't well kept and they took off the Shakespeare statue.Written 28 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LauraDaveJamesSolihull, UK5,223 contributionsWe were pleased to find that the museum had partially reopened after a long closure.
It’s worth calling in if you’re passing but not worth travelling to as only a very small percentage is open. We look forward to the full reopening in the future.Written 10 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Great to do some Christmas shopping In Person a city that has not been the victim of the ‘death of the high street’’ London is too much for me so the drive to Birmingham was a doddle.
To start with, it is incredibly busy but that’s to be expected, we did the park and ride into the city as we feared the centre would be a nightmare for parking. The parking is pretty expensive inside the bull ring so pleased we did that, also the queue of cars trying to get out of the shopping centre at 18:00 was frightening!
Now to the shops! I thought it was a fantastic Place, Christmas decorations were lovely and it all get very festive! My daughter made a beeline for selfridges, whilst i was allowed to shop in peace and get 90% of my shopping done! The food hall was impressive too- catch up with the daughter then back for round two! Could easily spend most of the day here- so nice to do a full days shopping again and not rely on ordering stuff online!
Doing a big Christmas shop again felt great, tiring but great fun having a Christmas rummage round the shops. Wish we had left more time for the Christmas markets nearbyWritten 2 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The canals helped the UK gain wealth and become an industrial leader and are an important part of history. It’s cool they still exist.Written 17 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Chris D1 contributionSet next to Birmingham University. The Barber Institute houses artwork by some of the greatest artists to have ever lived, Gainsborough, Van Gogh, Monet,Reubens and Turner to name just a few. I had to go in my wheelchair and once inside there is plenty room to get around. The staff dotted around and managed to answer most of my questions and the ones that they couldn’t offered to find out for future visits. Most of my questions were answered by Simon a very friendly approachable member of staff. My friend and I spent a lovely couple of hours trying to look knowledgeable. My only gripe is the access into the venue, wheelchair users have to use the goods entrance , help is at hand tho.Written 10 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - laura69 contributionsOverall this experience was very lovely which is why I’ve given this 4/5. But..
My main critic would be that this was soooooo rushed. So much so that one family requested to have their food wrapped and taken home because we were not given enough time to eat.
We were advised to arrive ten minutes early at 8.50. At 9 we had an elf come to the shutters of a closed store telling us they didn’t know how to open up. We were seated at 9.10 in Fumo (which was decorated festively). So far ten minutes lost and 20 minutes of unnecessary standing around waiting. We were offered basic tea or coffee which was served cold. I requested another and was given tea instead of coffee. The server ran off so fast I couldn’t alert them. Once I got someone to come over they tipped the tea over the table and (without mopping it up) put a fresh cup down of yet again cold coffee. This is 3 times! This is supposed to be a high end place and a server can’t clean up spills or even achieve HOT coffee. Gregg’s can manage this! We then had to eat 3 courses and finish drinks within 45 mins whilst also having entertainment interruptions. So we got first course at 9.15. Third course served at 9.50. Within ten minutes we were asked to go downstairs for Santa’s story. Food was left uneaten no coffee was had (no apple juice was seen either just orange as suggested on the menu).
The entertainment was lovely overall but given the time frame it placed a lot of limitations on everything.
I didn’t want to complain or we would have missed out on things and I didn’t want to spoil the experience for our daughter but for paying over £100 for this there is definitely room for improvements.Written 11 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Martin M4 contributionsHow about this for a winning combination: FREE admission; loads of fossils and dinosaurs; an exhibition that treats you as an intelligent adult and doesn’t assume you have the IQ of a gnat. This is Lapworth Museum for Geology at Birmingham University – open to the general public.
Today was the first time I have visited and previously resisted going, assuming it would be a tiny room full of rocks covered in a layer of dust. How wrong was I!
A great exhibition that held my interest for well over an hour and there was still more to see. And it is completely FREE.Written 26 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I absolutely hate flying, so I always take the train whenever possible. I recently discovered that you can get a 20% discount by purchasing a railcard on Trainpal and entering the code RC777E. I feel like I’ve missed out on so many savings before! Everyone should check it out when traveling!Written 19 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
