Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Elaine TSolihull, UK93 contributionsA very warm welcome from a female volunteer who we saw several times and was very helpful.
The exhibits are amazing. Some of the arms and armour are works of art as well as engineering. And some of the displays of armed horses and knights are fantastic. Similarly, the elephant.
We watched three demonstrations (all by David and Dave): medieval knights sword fighting, arming of medieval knights, and 'American Wild West' guns. We also attended a talk about the Chindits. They were all superb.
It was annoying that during the demonstration of arming of medieval knights, we could clearly hear drilling (upstairs was being prepared for an exhibition about Roman gladiators) and it was distracting. The museum should have asked the contractors to cease while the exhibitions were on, it was disrespectful to the demonstrators and the audience.
Personally, I would have preferred clear guidance for how to progress round the museum - the most obvious route being chronological order. As it was, I wandered a little aimlessly.
Some of the exhibits were also extremely dark and whilst I appreciate that light is an enemy of fabrics, it was not clear why some of the armour and weapons were in the dark.Written 16 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We visited at the end of January and had the place pretty much to ourselves.
The staff are very friendly. Once you buy your tickets you are free to roam the place.
If you have an hour to spare while in Leeds give this place a visit. It is a nice piece of history and a very atmospheric place.
There is also a nice little cafe where you can get warm on a cold day following your visit.Written 6 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Swathes of mini daffodils near the little lake, swans on the nest but haven’t laid yet, lots of frogs.Written 8 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Andrea MStockton-on-Tees, UK28 contributionsExcellent few hours out. House is amazing and walk around grounds was pleasurable but would be better in spring or summer visits to get full beauty. Cafe in courtyard very expensive and very little seating indoors. Although aware that was one also in house and another near ferry which we did not frequent.Written 19 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - emmaYork, UK4 contributionsWe have just visited in February half term , we tend to come every year to see the lambs. We always enjoy it this time was no different but struggled to get parked due to it being busy and a whole section of car park was taken over by caravans and horse trailers. We parked in a car park a little further away and it needs some serious work doing to it !! Huge muddy pot holes everywhere. We noticed most of the car parks were like it. Especially seeing as you have to pay for it , although it isn’t expensive.Written 22 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - afoden1Huddersfield, UK60 contributionsAfter seeing mixed reviews of peter kay on 2025
tour, but an absolute total fan of his work , was
a bit sceptical of spending hard earned money
on tickets to see him live but decided to do it
and go , went with my wife and absolutely loved
it ! From start to finish could not stop laughing
and loving it ! Kay is a legend B, the way he
keeps the comedy running is just untrue , a few
old jokes thrown in as well the old camera at
the start zooming in on the crowd! k2, had
a great laugh . Arena is good nearby food and
drinks spots to choose from. All in close vicinity
to the arena , spot on ! Bengal brasserie do a
great curry ...10/10! ! . . . . . . .Written 9 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KaynChrisLeeds, UK106 contributionsWhile my husband visited his mum at St James hospital.
I decided to take our 20mth old Granddaughter to the Sparks play area.
We didn't visit the museum part as she's a little to young but its something to consider when a bit older.
She had loads of fun at Sparks.
They have lots of pretend play things as well as a soft play area.
Lots of fun..😍

We arrived a little early as advised and joined a short queue, which took us around 5/10 minutes to reach the entrance control. Once our tickets were scanned we were directed to the overflow car park, which is some distance from the entrance booth. However, it was possible to access the illuminated "Woodland Walk" directly from this point. There were some stalls selling Christmas items and food/drink near the Hall. The Walk included several illuminated areas and interactive items, although the marker lights were out along one short section. The event was generally well organised although some additional signage would have helped the walk at one or two points. We felt that our basic tickets represented reasonable valueWritten 22 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ludwik D373 contributionsIt's no longer just a market.
The indoor food place was packed, all food stores open and plenty of people and seats.
We still have the traditional indoor market, although it's getting smaller.
Also we have the outdoor open market.Written 7 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Billy BunterBelfast, UK14 contributionsAtmosphere is superb, football team not that good. Sat in upper East stand but that was not my choice. A bit far away from the pitch and need good eyesight to pick out players. Prefer to be nearer pitch but tickets are at a premium. To get a ticket I had to book hospitality, quite expensive and serving of food was a disaster. Meals delivered to our table at 20 minute intervals so nobody ate at the same time. Wine being monopolised by one couple just a free for all. Wouldn't do this again just go to the match.Written 27 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Chris MWetherby, UK1,701 contributionsThis Local Authority operated museum became known to us mainly from a consultation relating to potential closure. We made a midweek visit, and enjoyed the displays. The ground floor portrays a street layout of shops that could be seen in Victorian times. The content is quite extensive. The first floor contains further displays, mainly applicable to children's activities of the time. During our visit one gallery was closed to enable the installation of a new exhibition. The museum also has a shop. There is a car park on the opposite of the road with a pedestrian controlled crossing to reach the entrance. The museum is also close to another attraction - Kirkstall Abbey. We felt that the modest entry fee provided excellent value for money. It is well worth a visit.Written 9 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- MrwstoweBurnley, UK343 contributionsMe and the wife went for a bike ride along the Leeds and Liverpool canal. OMG it’s bloody great scenery, stops for coffee and snacks, it’s mainly flat and just so peaceful. It’s a lot cleaner than it used to be. 10/10Written 9 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- dcmleedsLeeds, UK178 contributionsReally thrilled to see that the cafe at Golden Acre Park now has some indoor dog friendly seating. This is really appreciated as the park is well used by dog walkers and previously if I was walking my dog solo I struggled to get a coffee as not allowed inside. Well done Golden Acre. This will be popular.Written 16 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
