Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- BenNewport, UK43 contributionsStopped in here during a visit to Cardiff. The building is impressive. You need to pass through airport like security to get in, but once there you’re free to walk around the public spaces. It’s great being able to look in on the seat of Welsh democracy. For some reason I was particularly drawn to the different chairs that ASs use, clearly to accommodate comfort and posture needs. This made me think of how unwelcoming and unsuitable for wellbeing the benches in Westminster must be for many MPs.Written 31 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KingCuffWulfeCardiff, UK148 contributionsFunnily enough i was driving up Cathedral rd & i suggested to she who knows better, that the Mansion House must be one of these lovely big Georgian houses
But no, sd she who reads maps upside down, I am sure it is in Roath - the other side of Town!
Funnily enough we were driving through Roath a couple of days later, the traffic slowed & I happened to look to my right & blow me, there it was dropping it's anonymity with the sign '' MANSION HOUSE '' outside
AAAAAHHHHHH 1 - 0 to me Jo claimed
Why the City's ppl do not know much about it is because it was hard to popularise a Social Superior when more important mindsets of football & the local pub took precedent
The Mansion House in Richmond Road has played an important role in the civic life of the Welsh capital from early in the 20th Century. Originally known as ‘Grove House', it was built in the mid 1890s as a family home for James Howell, founder of the famous department store in the city centre that still bears his name. Grove House was home to James and Fanny Howell, their six sons and five daughters. Their retinue of servants occupied the top floor.
The building is very like its neighbours in Richmond Road and the Crescent, with the main walls a mixture of Pennant blue and Forest of Dean stone with decorations in Bath stone. A shrewd businessman, James Howell designed a house that could be divided, possibly to provide self-contained homes for two of his children after his death or simply to make it easier to sell.
A major refurbishment of the building took place in 1998, to restore the house to its former glory. But if it were not for it's corner position you may have missed it
But it is a rather appealing building, proud, distinct & an asset to the Community - but does anyone know if anyone actually lives there ?
The interior has retained much of its original features, notably the extensive use of carved and inlaid woodwork, both in the fine staircase, the fireplaces and the pair of full-length mirrors which face each other in the hallway. On the first floor are The Lord Mayor's former private apartment and four en-suite guest bedrooms, which have hosted distinguished visitors from around the world.
So, I doff my cap & withdraw from the MH to concentrate on my wife's driving !Written 8 April 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We had a guided tour from two very interesting and knowledgeable staff members, and were really impressed by everything we saw and heard.Written 22 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
