Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- tokis62United Kingdom91 contributionsIt is a must go place where you can find nice live Irish performance, delicious stew and pint of real Guinness!
Very crowded but worth to visit and enjoy your holiday beside native people.
Everything is colorful and full of life over there. Incredible atmosphere where you can recharge your liveliness.

- Michelle NMelbourne, Australia529 contributionsBeautiful old pub down a cobblestone lane with lots of old advertising and Guinness advertising. From start to finish, from the text to confirm our table was ready, to the exceptional waiting service - this is a gold star experience in all aspects.
Starters and food generally was excellent, but the chateaubriand was just unbelievable good - the best I’ve ever had in Belfast.
Cocktails super, wine sensibly priced but I’d recommend the Malbec with the red meat.
We will be back again.Written 25 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - pakabayAdelaide, Australia2,510 contributionsVisited last week while staying in Belfast, to see Bone machine.
Didn’t particularly enjoy the gig but loved the venue, small & perfect for live music.
Located in the Cathedral Quarter this is 2 venues in one: The Green Room & The Black Box.
Staff were great, bar & security, and I’d be happy to see more music here.Written 14 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. One quater a star off For a bad waitress who acted rude and never checked on us after we got our food. We asked her to come back and were going to order dessert and she nevr returned even though they were not too busy on this ealry weeknight. She cleaned tables and did everything but check on us after i asked her directly so we left no tip. Other waitress and staff and customers were so friendly and it was our distinct pleasure as African Americans to be among people who have a history or link with thosee who fought for justice for themselves and others. Another staff member called a cab for us when we left A Customer who was a little tipsy ( an older gent) offered to buy us drinks but unfortunatley we had to go catch our boat back to Liverpool. I wish we didn't have to despite the one unfriendly sour puss waitress. I f I had more time in Belfast I would've returned for another meal for sure just for the good feeling from others and the history of the club restaurant's founding. Best meal we had during a short 2 day stay in Belfast . The bbq ribs my daughter ordered were fall of the bone tender a d more than she could eat in one sitting. Great place . Highly recommend.Written 31 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Candj9173North West England, UK833 contributionsWe called in at this iconic bar to have a drink while the Euros were on. It's a decent sized bar with plenty of seating. It's a very traditional bar but it has a nice vibe. Sadly we only had time for one drink but I can definitely see the appeal!Written 15 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Paul FChesterfield, UK4,604 contributionsRed velvet and shiny brass are key features to this relaxing pub in the heart of the Cathedral district.
It's decorated to a very high standard with vintage style signs posters and marketing from bygone era's. It's a charming, quirky place to enjoy a social drink.
The Guiness is good, the staff are friendly and helpful.Written 31 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The comics on the night, in my opinion, weren’t hugely funny. There were moments that were good but no real stand out comic so maybe we were unlucky… although the locals seemed to be enjoying themselves so maybe they could relate more. The compère was good though and overall was a good night.
I was really gutted not to get seated tickets, so I would advise you book in advance if you want a seat, especially if you’re a tourist and will have spent all day walking! We were really lucky as a lovely girl who worked there very kindly seated us in some seats that were available from no-shows! We were very grateful!!!Written 18 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tina A7 contributionsThe pub is cosy and small. Friendly staff . Pizzas available from cabin outside, but can be eaten inside the pub. A lot of locals use it too. Although I was on my own, I felt happy and content being there. A pity there are not more pubs like this.
The entrance still retains the steel cage used during 'The Troubles' - a permanent reminder of Belfast's past.Written 20 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
