Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had Steve on our tour this morning. Of the number of tours we have done since we started our travels, Steve was the best guide. His knowledge of history and his impartial discussion of the events, painted a picture for us which we were looking for in our quest to discover more about Ireland. This is our first trip to Ireland and our only knowledge of its history was through the lens of Australian television since the 70s. We were very much looking for a view consistent with our belief that there was more at play than just, religion.

Even though we had rain, we were at all times looked after by Steve‘s knowledge of places where we could stand in comfort. Being on a mobility scooter the highlight for me was that each path he took us, he insured, I had clear access to all of the appropriate crossovers , which made my access so much easier.

I would definitely recommend anyone who wants to know more about the history of Northern Ireland to consider a tour with this group.

I was very torn on what rating to give for this tour as I found parts of it quite disturbing especially the IRA volunteers side. One of his opening lines were “people from England are often scared to say where they are from as they think we hate the English, we don’t, we hate the their government and the British army”. Not very well thoughts through as they do not know who’s on the tour. Yes it states to come with an open mind but shouldn’t the guide also have an open mind too and not generalise as much? I left this part of the tour feeling very uncomfortable as much of it felt like hate preaching and made me understand why there is still such friction in the area with people sprouting such hate.

The second guide on the loyalist side was much better and seemed to give a more balanced view of the troubles and offered a solution in order to move forward. His view was more of the two sides needing in integrate which they do not. However when asked whether the wall should be knocked down he firmly said no, they should lock the gates fulltime as those on this side do not feel safe with them open at all. He also spoke of a recent (6 months ago) attack by the republican side which required the wall to be fixed after a bomb was thrown and fires shot across the line at an innocent home.

I have given the rating I have as I feel it was reasonable value for money and the best way to describe it is that it gives a good view of the hate and danger still very present in Northern Ireland even in 2024 and with hate filled preachers feeding into that this is not going to be the end of the troubles in Northern Ireland.

Had a wonderful time with Trevor as our guide on this tour, which was a mix of history, walking and food tastings. Enjoyed the tour as well as the entire experience from the customer service from the company when booking my tour. Tried the only whisky I really enjoyed here on the tour! This company is perfect for those on cruise ships, if you can not make it into port, they are very good about giving you credit to use anytime in any city they have tours in for 2 years from the date of your cruise. Very good company to do business with! Fun mix of people on our tour as well.

Seeing Belfast’s troubled history through Arthur’s eyes was a very rewarding experience. He gives a very balanced view, without being sensational but also being honest about how the city / country was torn apart. He acknowledges that the tensions still exist, but offers hope for the future.

The walking tour was amazing, was fun to enter into hidden out of the way local pubs, visit lesser known churches and hear all the history leading up to present day.

Paula was an excellent guide. This is a well curated tour with a lot of information both inside and outside the car with graphics and a thorough review of the history of The Troubles.

Marti offered a great tour filled with historical and cultural information. He is also a fun and lively guide. He customizes the tour by sharing great photo opportunities and mentioning places to visit and places to eat based on our interests.

An amazing tour where you learned so much as an outsider gazing in on a complex issue. Thanks for a fascinating insight. A fabulous thought provoking three hours.

Steve Malones tour of Belfast was a masterclass in storytelling. So many wonderful tales of the history of the city, including the cross community co-operation exemplified by St Mary’s and the First Presbyterian Church. Not to mention the Line of Duty references.

We did our first "If buildings could talk" tour with Barney in September 2020. It was informative and entertaining so we were determined to do it again when we came back to Belfast this summer. It was a pleasure meeting him again. Barney is such a great storyteller and you will see the city through different eyes.
    It was absolutely worth it!

What a fascinating tour - Barry is a hoot! He has a wealth of knowledge and answers all questions that we posed. The morning flew by and Barry generously extended our time as the conversation kept flowing. We thoroughly recommend this tour as a must do when in Belfast.

A walking tour with added spooky puzzles to solve? Thanks, very much!

The puzzles were pretty easy, so I would say this as a mixed-age or mixed-ability game. The story line didn't make a whole lot of sense, but it was quite fun to assign the speaking parts to different members of our group to allow for them to do funny voices.
The stops on the tour were good and the historical details were interesting. I would have liked a few more, but I think it was an appropriate number for a family group.

Marty is a very quirky guy . Once you get his sense of humour you will have a great time.
My friend and I were lucky enough to be only ones on our tour and it was brilliant.
His knowledge of the street art and all the local venues is second to none!
We wanted an alternative to the usual historical tours and we were not disappointed.
It was lovely seeing the non political street art and hearing all about what it represented in terms of the positivity alot portrayed for the city's future and the work being done there in the community, for example, several pieces that had been created as part of teaching sessions with budding artists and others promoting the charities helping the homeless.
He also took us to several bars showcasing different musical genres and took is off the beaten tourist paths to show us places we would never have found otherwise.
After nearly 3 hours together we saw and learned so much and had a fantastic time. I highly recommend Marty and hope his relatively new business becomes a success for him. Thank you Marty x
