Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

. . . Desperate Dan in the sunshine this time, with children clambering all over him for photos. A great magnet in the Square, attracting lots of attention.

Five penguins on a church wall, very cute. View as part of the sculptures around the city. If you like penguins, this is for you.

. . . an important part of Dundee's history. Felt inspired to buy some limited prints this time as so evocative of my childhood, and wonderful that my adult son is equally captivated; fun!

This is quite an impressive piece of art, located in the center of Dundee.
Unlike the rest of the sculptures in the city, this one has a darker side to it.

A funny ensemble of lemmings from the eponymous computer game of my childhood. One of many statues in Dundee that remind me of the halcyon days of my youth.

Dundee has some remarkable buildings often soured by the commercial elements in the shop fronts. Good dtatues like this one do proliferate.

A great statue, but what is the relevance of the date of 1807, which is before she was born?
It says Diamond Jubilee which would have been 1898

This is a lovely statue of the famous admiral.
The statue is located in front of the St. Paul cathedral.

This memorial was presented on 28/12/ 2013 - significantly exactly 134 years since the fateful collapse of the first Tay Bridge ( 1879) which killed a suspected 59 people in a train crossing the river, as they plunged into the icy waters below during a violent storm. There were no survivors. An inquiry into the disaster found that the engineer in charge of it’s construction , Sir Thomas Bouch, had created a seriously flawed and flimsy design with inferior materials, and his bridge maintenance was under par. He was disgraced, and died impoverished less than a year later. This memorial consists of 3 x 8 foot , grey, rectangular , granite blocks , with the names of the known passengers and crew of the doomed train inscribed, as well as an engraved illustration. It’s fittingly situated beside the mighty Tay, poignantly in sight of the replacement Tay Rail Bridge.

My daughter joined me up at the monument, which I've visited with my family... I told her about her great uncle being in the black watch while she drank her frappuccino, being patient for 5 minutes; until she cried out its too cold Mum. I'm freezing and look at my hair, it's too windy. Please can we go to the car.

Beautiful view of Dundee, but yeah it's awfy windy. 😊

This statue stands in tribute to James Carmichael, who along with his brother Charles founded the engineering company J and C Carmichael making steam engines. Elder brother James later became a Burgess of Dundee. The statue depicts a seated James Carmichael. The seat looks like an engine, alluding to his contributions to steam engineering in Dundee. On his lap are I guess engineering plans. A fine monument to a fine Dundonian.

One thing I don't like about the statue is the head. It makes it look like Carmichael has the head of Frankenstein's monster.

This statue stands in tribute to George Kinloch, a Scottish reformist politician who is noted for parliamentary reform and workers rights. There’s some contradictory information about his family’s plantations in Jamaica. The monument is a bronze sculpture depicting Kinloch standing upright dressed in formal attire, a full robe which is partly held up in his left arm. The statue was created by Sir John Steell who also created many sculptures of other notable Scotsman.

I actually came across this fitting memorial when exploring the end of the City Quay Complex to see if I could walk any further along the river. The answer was no but I was rewarded by finding this memorial to those who served in the Submarines stationed in Dundee.
Its exact location and where to park are well described by the previous couple of reviews if you are interested.

Read about this and knew I wanted to see it. The story is just brilliant. Unfortunately it's outside a building that's possibly being renovated. Needs a better place to be seen.
