Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We found Mackenzie Leather while staying in Old Town, Edinburgh.
Walking in, we were greeted by the nicest young man. I knew what I wanted, which was a belt, and he explained the cost and the differences in the leather. All I had to do was pick out the style. He measured me, and it literally took about five minutes for the craftsman to punch the holes, refit and I was on my way with my wonderful new belt. They have many leather goods, purses, satchels and I’m certain they do custom orders.

    NOTE:
If you’re looking for cheaply made leather goods, do not go to Mackenzie’s. The work and craftsmanship is impeccable and you will pay for quality.

The coziest bookshop you could imagine. I found a first edition signed copy of a favorite book of mine for a very affordable price. Highly recommended!

Had a fudge making experience with Will here! Was so much fun and we got to see the fudge being made with some expert knowledge and honest information passed on. The shop itself is such a nice place to be, the equipment is simple & unique as was this experience! The fudge though, is something else. We made salted caramel fudge and got to use the tools needed to make the fudge loaf - also cut the slabs for us to take home. The fudge is so creamy and makes your mouth water. The raspberry one is a mind blower as it’s so sweet but so sharp. Will recommend this to everyone!

What an amazing journey we had with Hector. He led us down the pathway towards enlightenment of the Scottish single malt Scotch Whisky world. Hector intertwined history and Scotch as Smooth as the sumptuous Whisky he served. Highly recommended to the novice or the experienced, a must experience if you are in Edinburgh, be sure to book your experience.

I visited the Scottish Storytelling Centre for an Edinburgh World Heritage event. It was my first visit and I appreciated the light and airy setting. The first part of the event was in the Netherbow Theatre downstairs which proved to be a great venue. Afterwards there was a drinks reception upstairs in the Storytelling Court. An enjoyable visit.

Small shop not to be overlooked!
The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about various whiskies. We explained what we liked and they offered us several tastings of their selection. They explained about distillery editions and their own blends. Great experience, thank you!

Machine made or hand-made tartan. They can look at your surname and show you the colour's of tartans that go with your surname. Highly recommend. They can also ship everything to you. Great selection of ties.

We visited this charming shop today and the marshmallows were easily the best ones we've ever had. There was a great selection of marshmallow flavours, so it wasn't easy to choose what to have. In the end, we decided to order two milkshakes topped with whipped cream and large toasted marshmallows - one raspberry and one churro. All of it tasted incredible. The marshmallows were like delightful little pillows, soft and delicious. We couldn't also resist buying a bag of
caramel swirl marshmallows to enjoy at home after trying a free sample in the store. The friendly service and warm atmosphere made the visit even more enjoyable, leaving us with a big smile. If you have a sweet tooth, this place is definitely a must visit!

This shop had to be my favorite part of visiting Edinburgh. I probably spent a good 1.5 hours looking through all of the sections for each artist. I ended up buying many items from different artists. Each piece felt very special and unique. You can tell that each artist is committed to their craft. Highly recommend a visit here, you won’t regret it!

Oh my goodness. We literally looked through the window for 1 loaf of Foccacia bread. But the temptation of the Leek one and the cheese selection was too much. The bread was absolutely divine, we nibbled on it during the day, had the rest with pasta back at base. It was as light, tasty and fresh. If only you were closet to Yorkshire 😅 excellent through and through

Like Aladdin's Cave! Just wow! If you love gemstones and you love jewellery you cannot miss this place! Every gem is selected from around the world by the owners and crafted by the team using the best patterns for the piece of jewellery (rather than cutting as many pieces as they can) so everything is stunning!

The staff have a wealth of knowledge and it's lovely that you can try as much as you like without being watched over like a hawk and without pressure to buy! I'm not joking when I say I spent 3 hours over 2 days here! ...I may have spent faaaaar more than I should but everything is just so stunning and reasonably priced (especially compared to the many mass produced products found in the gifts shops on the same street!)

Many, many thanks to Angelina who was super patient and amazingly helpful.

I came across this fantastic place just by chance while walking around Leith. As I entered I was greeted warmly by Karen and her lovely pooch Harley. Despite the fact that Karen was just about to close for the day she told me there was no hurry and that I was to feel free to look around. The shop was full of unique and quirky gifts. Soon afterwards another customer came in and we all had quite a blether. Eventually I decided to buy two metal signs. One said, 'Scotland' in white lettering against a blue background and the other said, 'Sometimes I Wet My Plants' - I'm an absolute sucker for a good old pun. Both will be winging their way to Australia very shortly. All I can say is that Karen is a unique selling point all by herself (as is Harley). I recommend this shop to all!

Enjoyed a long perusal of books on Scotland, and bought some beautiful postcards. We were there on the first day of our trip, so it was a great place to stop and orient ourselves, over a coffee and pastry. Easy to find, on Princes St.
