Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- simon pVillaroger, France10 contributionsI do a lot of sport and go to the Salt Room to help with my breathing. Makes a massive difference for me, definitely worth a shot.Written 21 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Place is ALWAYS minging doesn’t matter when you visit. Changing rooms are rank. Hair everywhere, clumps of dust, toilets always dusty and stinking. Attendants NEVER move items left in cubicles so disabled ones are often unusable. Stupidly crowded at times too. Odd cause you can nearly guarantee the staff will be 3 deep at reception when you go in standing chatting. Never seen one cleaning yet…Written 8 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- robelew2017Edinburgh, UK1 contributionFriendly and relaxed. Switched on staff. Never did yoga before until I booked my one on one session with Lee who got me motivated. Classes are great. Would highly recommend Canning Street Yoga.Written 18 September 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Renate Kriegler EdwardsDunbar, UK97 contributionsThe Salisbury Centre is a beautiful old Georgian Mansion in central Edinburgh, just by the Commonwealth Pool. It has been a public meditation centre for decades, yet remains one of Edinburgh's best-kept secrets. Pop in daily (Monday through Friday) at 09:30AM or 17:30PM for a FREE 30mins silent sitting meditation. Very relaxed; you don't need any experience. There's a huge garden to relax in and get quiet, and a very well-stocked library too. For a 50p donation you can help yourself to coffee or tea in the lovely old kitchen. These facilities can be accessed between 2 and 5pm on weekdays. Do try the meditation; not many good things are truly free like this!Written 22 July 2014This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - puppysapphoEdinburgh, UK3 contributionsSince there is no other online anon feedback contact info for pleasance, thought id leave it here. I love the facilities. I come almost everyday. Great prices
Some constructive criticism-
The same 20 songs on the speakers is very hard to endure for a regular. I prefer to not have to work with headphones in, but the background music is so repetitive that im going insane!
Also i wish the staff was more approachable. Whenever i come with a question, i feel like i get a bare minimum of an answer. Even if they are friendly, i often feel like the advise i will be getting is going to be half assedWritten 4 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Having written to the club and received no response I am now here leaving a review.
The gym and exercise suits are overall pretty good, it's clean and well looked after. The staff, for the most part, are very good and have a lot of time for members too.
But the pool is not the cleanest, the steam room stinks and is grimy and just not as good as it used to be. The sauna is ok, but too small. I have heard reports from other members of people urinating while sat in the sauna. Gross.
The Jacuzzis are off, except from the cold one. In winter. Nuffield are happy to collect a high monthly fee but aren't so happy to respond to any sort of criticism or a genuine questions re this issue. Why have 2 hot Jacuzzis and have them both off? Why continue to charge the same fee? Surely the fair thing to do is to reduce fees if you are reducing facilities!
Overall the place is tired and in need of freshening up. The changing rooms are unclean as are the showers, which have mildew and missing tiles. The guttering often comes loose and is a hazard.
There are better clubs in Edinburgh that charge less per month than this.
They are renovating the Cafe!! Why not renovate the pool area and turn the darn Jacuzzis back on!!!Written 27 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Upon arrival the concierge at the front desk was abrupt and icy. He told us to go get changed and come back as quickly as possible (we weren't late so no idea why) which made us feel a bit stressed, he also gave no indication as to where anything was. Upon leaving I didn't know where to put my robe and when I approached him he just stared at me like i'd run over his dog. Another member of staff came to my aide and showed me where the laundry basket was. It doesn't feel great to be treated like that when you're spending a fair sum on a relaxing day with your partner. Left feeling grumpy.
Apart from that guy, the overall experience was so so. The Spa itself has a fairly pleasant layout but is in need of some TLC, especially with regards to the flooring which has huge black cracks running down the corridors. If you're looking for a spa in Edinburgh would recommend you spend the extra and go to spa one at the Sheraton.Written 7 January 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
