His passion for the history and stories of the castle truly brought the place to life. James took the time to answer all of our questions and made sure everyone in the group felt included. It’s a great collection of old and newer buildings in one huge fortress with a great and fascinating history, told to us by our terrific guide Ella. She told us about what exhibits were in each building and the history of the buildings themselves. - Pamela2 contributionsA very fun bike ride! I felt very safe riding through Edinburgh--the tour kept us in very low traffic conditions. It was mostly on bike baths with beautiful scenery. The tour guides were so helpful and took pictures for us that were sent to us after the ride. A mostly flat and easy ride. - Mark R1 contributionOur tour driver and guide was Stephen Chalmers. Steve made the trip an excellent adventure. He was a storyteller, historian, comedian, DJ, educator, teacher and by the end of the day long trip, someone with whom you would want to share a drink. He made the scenery you witnessed come more alive with the history behind it. His stories added context to places we visited and the historical events that took place there. His eclectic music selection throughout the trip enhanced the mood and at times changed the mood of the tour during the day.
I began the tour somewhat hesitant of spending 12 plus hours on a bus tour, but by the end I hated to see the day end as I had been entertained for the entire time. The benefit of being in a cab was that parking and stopping was allowed in many areas and Saf really knew his way around. As a guide Saf was very knowledgeable and well informed, with his passion for Edinburgh he brought the city to life for us and showed us many interesting sites and different aspects of the city.
