This memorial was erected in honour of Robert Louis Stevenson, the Scottish novelist and travel writer, who left English literature his most noted classic novels Treasure Island, Kidnapped, and Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
This memorial stands amongst the many memorials to other famous Scots in Princes Street Gardens. It's surprisingly understated as the Scott Monument is extravagant. Apparently this was in accordance with his wishes, as he didn't want a big memorial. This memorial lies in the middle of some grass, with small paved blocks leading the way. The memorial looks a little like like a gravestone, although in reality, his grave is thousands of miles away in Samoa.
It's nothing much to look at, but worth a small detour if in the gardens, especially if you're a Scot or a fan. Personally, I've many happy memories and nightmares reading Treasure Island and Jekyll and Hyde.
