liked the statue and the history, wish the information there was more legible and available

considering its listed as somewhere to visit and Wojtek was so important to Polish soldiers and himself was a part of history, there should be a plaque for him with his story

It was a very nice church. We have traveled the world, looking at churches in the different architect. I love to look at the organs and the pipes and the hymnals to see what exactly goes on in that particular church.

We were a little confused with this statue as we didn't know the story behind it until we googled it but its such a beautiful and thoughtful statue to what is a shocking and upsetting story.
It was created by the famous Andy Scott who created the kelpies, this is such a different statue and is a beautiful reminder to everyone that we will never forget!

This bronze statue of renowned Scottish pioneer medical missionary David Livingstone, stands in the shadow of the Scott Monument in Princes Street Gardens. It was sculpted by Amelia Robertson Hill , and depicts the famous explorer with a bible in right hand, long handled axe in other, with pistol & compass around his waist, and a lion skin behind him . He was born in Blantyre in 1813, and died in Africa in 1873 whilst searching for the source of the White Nile. This honorary statue of him was unveiled in 1876.

This nice statue is situeted inWest Princes Street Gardens. Thomas Guthrie was a Scottish divine and philanthropist. He studied in Edinburgh and Paris. He was one of the most popular preachers of his day in Scotland and spoke about temperance and other ideas of social reform, and to support compulsory education, which he believed would reduce teenage criminality.

This memorial was erected in honour of Robert Louis Stevenson, the Scottish novelist and travel writer, who left English literature his most noted classic novels Treasure Island, Kidnapped, and Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

This memorial stands amongst the many memorials to other famous Scots in Princes Street Gardens. It's surprisingly understated as the Scott Monument is extravagant. Apparently this was in accordance with his wishes, as he didn't want a big memorial. This memorial lies in the middle of some grass, with small paved blocks leading the way. The memorial looks a little like like a gravestone, although in reality, his grave is thousands of miles away in Samoa.

It's nothing much to look at, but worth a small detour if in the gardens, especially if you're a Scot or a fan. Personally, I've many happy memories and nightmares reading Treasure Island and Jekyll and Hyde.

I had seen a post card of the Sphere many years ago when my brother sent it to me in Canada.. the story goes that he was involved in the restoration of the globe. We were in Edinburgh in September and had just gotten off the train.. walked through a side street and there it was 🤣 .. fate I guess.

The inscription says it all - that this stone was in memory of the hospitality that the Norwegian brigade found in Edinburgh during the Second World War.
The monument is not sculpted but rather is a naturally weathered stone from Norway.
You can find it in Princes Street Garden

I came across this statue when strolling through West Princes Street Gardens where many statues can be found. This statue by William Brodie is called The Genius of Architecture Rewarding at Once the Science and Practice of Art".
It shows a Grecian style goddess crowning two small boys with laurel leaves, presumably one boy represents Science and one Art.
